This story was dead the minute Singer was attached to direct it. First of all the gimmicky decade shift with each movie kills any tension or belief that they will be any danger towards the main characters, second Magneto should have NEVER been in this movie since he is one of the few Mutants who has beaten/killed Apocalypse in the comics so it ultimately destroys any threat of the main villain in this movie, and third Singer keeps rehashing the same tired material from previous movies ( a cage fight like X1, Quicksilver slo mo scene like DOFP, Stryker's kidnapping mutant kids from the X-Mansion like X2, the CGI vomit ending just like Superman Returns, etc.)

Did Olivia Munn even talk in that movie?

I saw that vid recently and I agree with his rewrite 1000%. Having the horsemen have proper motivations would have made Apocalypse 5x better. I really like the idea of Dark Beast too. And having it explained that Apocalypse is almost mind controlling Magneto would make at least some justification of his killing spree at the end when hes f****ng the entire earth with his forcefields.

The rewrite of the Horsemen works and nixing Magneto's fridged family. I don't know if it was Oscar, the outfit, the dialogue, him dying or what but Apocalypse didn't feel like an imposing force like he does most everywhere else. He felt like a villain of the week. Not a season's big bad or series big bad to use Buffy speak. It would've helped the movie tremendously if Mystique died. I like Jennifer Lawrence usually as an actress and in interviews but fuck I hate her as Mystique and what they did to Mystique to make her match Jennifer's star power. If she wasn't the plot pusher of DoFP I would rate it higher than First Class.

He overlooked the fact that Xavier himself “willingly” destroyed two submarines with hundreds of people on them. So it’s not like he can pass judgement on Magneto and Storm. The movie doesn’t out right state it but Apocalypse’s upgrades have a seductive corruption thing going on. Similar to the One Ring from Lord of The Rings.

People seem to overlook the real reason why the horsemen followed Apocalypse and the fact that Xavier killed hundreds of people himself.

Apocalypse is an old character, but he didn't have to be old. I mean, the Oscar Isaac body he went into was young, but for some reason, he was turned old.
I think they should have had it that Mystique was manipulating everyone and was working for Apocalypse the entire time. Make her like a version of Ozymandias. Manipulating events to prepare for Apocalypse's return (like Xavier starting a school to train powerful mutants).

Yeah the characterization was just off. He never felt to be powerful force to be reckoned with.

Yeah the characterization was just off. He never felt to be powerful force to be reckoned with. I think, because to Singer, Magneto is the big bad (hero?*) of the X-men movies. Apocalypse can't be seen to be over Magneto.
*There's always a secondary villain that drives the story so Magneto wouldn't look officially like the bad guy except for X1.

Yeah the characterization was just off. He never felt to be powerful force to be reckoned with. Apocalypse in the comics isn’t actually like that. He’s actually a pretty mid-tier villian. The hype surrounding him is mostly fan fiction.

Yeah I should've said the way they used her as the plot pusher of DoFP were different I'd rate it higher. It shouldn't have been a battle to save her soul and make her come back to the flock type of story. Mystique should've been a straight villain, but the fucked that up because of J-Law's rise to prominence being a leading heroine.

I know it happens a lot with characters, but I see them the way I see them. And to me Mystique should be a Villain not leading the X-men (like at the end of Apocalypse) and not a Hero to down trodden mutants. At best she should be an anti-hero in my mind. If you had to class her as a hero or villain would you put her in the hero category? When I think of her I think terrorist. Maybe that's just me. I guess making it about everyone trying to stop her from turning evil just got to me.It felt contrived and only done because what happened to Jennifer Lawrence's star power after the first movie. If Mystique was played by someone else I just thought it be more about stopping her from killing a politician not stopping her from making her first kill.

And they did it to get pardons.

And they did it to get pardons. It wasn’t really for pardons but because the hatred for mutants was rising and the brotherhood loss its usefulness. They did it for protection. More of an anti-hero I will admit.
