Phillies get Joey Bats from the Mets for, presumably, a voucher for a free hoagie at Wawa. Eat your heart out ‘27 Yankees!

He was doing alright for a while, before falling back into irrelevancy for the past month or so. Still, a veteran presence that brings power and patience off the bench. Valuable pinch hit ABs in the playoffs and Bautista can play that role fairly well I'd imagine.

People in Philly are going too crazy over this. He is a Veteran presence and we need some right handed batters. Nothing more than that.

He's no Dave Bautista, that's for sure.

It's a textbook post-deadline trade and they gave up literally nothing (a player to be named later OR cash considerations - in either case, to be determined). I'm with you on this one, a veteran player with pop and who can work the count very well. Invaluable guy to have on the bench for a playoff game, even if he is well past his prime. Can't imagine why anyone would be upset by this move. Or did I totally misunderstand?

I get it, I guess, but I like this move. We essentially get him for free and maybe the new setting will add some pop to his bat.

Machado would have cost a lot of prospects and yeah, they're prospects, but you can just go all in and sign him in the offseason anyway without mortgaging the farm for it. Hamels has been brilliant since returning to the NL, not sure anyone could have predicted just how well he's responded so on that one I'm more in agreement with you.

I did not want us to trade for him. It would have cost us a ton for a half a year rental when we can just get him outright in the offseason. I agree about Hamels. We could have gotten him for a large pizza and a coke. With Nola being the only player resembling a pitcher lately, it would have definitely helped.
