GHOST STORIES has wrongly been advertised as an anthology. While different people show up to tell their stories, they tell it to the same person. I think it would've been better as a real anthology, i.e. a series of unconnected segments. The weak way the characters were written would've been justified due to the lack of time to develop them. There are a couple of truly scary moments, but the transitions from past to present are a little abrupt. Especially the moment where a certain character is in the middle of a dangerous situation. The scene immediately cuts to him in the present casually saying that he got out of the problem. Why not show the moment? Or at least explain how it happened. To be fair, directors Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman wrote this script based on their own play. No, I'm not giving them a pass. I'm just saying that didn't do it because they chose the convenient path. Using dialogue unnecessarily is a common stage-to-screen adaptation mistake and it's usually unintentional, especially when the same person/people is/are involved. Nyman's performance is good and the cinematography is very good, but the music score is a little pretentious. 5/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

I thought it started OK, then fell apart.
I didn't really care for it.

I'm a sucker for a good horror anthology but this one just sucks and not in a good way. It wastes it's few semi eerie moments by trying to be clever using a "twist" we've seen several times before. In the end it left me feeling cheated and disappointed and wanting to watch a proper horror movie.
