My very favorite novel is War and Peace. I took a month to read it at fifty pages a day. Perfect in every way but I wish I could have read it in Russian.

Fiction - Love in the Times of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, maybe
Non-fiction - not sure. Maybe Guns, Germs and Steel, or a Van Gogh biography that I read a few years ago.

SAVE FERRIS Fiction is Trainspotting. I just reread it for the first time in several years and it has held up beautifully. I just get so attached to those characters they almost feel like real friends. I don’t know if I have a favorite non fiction book, I’ve read a lot of great ones. My current favorite is probably Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) autobiography. The Pistols are my favorite band and Jones is my favorite guitarist. The guy has a million great stories and his life story is incredible considering where he started from. While he’s a fuck up he’s incredibly honest and brutally self reflective. Just a great book about a great musician.

Thanks for the follow up question... Diomedes I suppose, even as a young kid I thought he was great. So much courage and had the most battle experience even though he was the youngest of the Achaean kings. He also was one of the few that took on the gods and even wounded Ares (with the help of Athena of course). He was virtuous but was never over confident like some of the other heroes in the story (he attacked Apollo twice but backed off once Apollo warned him not to take on the immortals). He also gave wise council to the rest of the Greeks including Agamemnon and Achilles. The night time spy mission taken on by Diomedes was also one of my favorite parts of the story. Do you have a favorite?
