my favorite player ever. in any sport. A ' GOD' here - made his mistakes - owned up to them - made more mistakes - owned up to them - everyone loved him because he was 'real' - wore his heart on his sleeve and gave 110% every game (not practice) for years upon years upon years - blue collar lunch pail worker who defined toughness and attitude in Philly - had his share of problems and made his mistakes - but gave 110% - that's what we loved about him . was blessed to watch him.

Fred McGriff
It's both hilarious & sad that no pro I've known has ever matched his class as person. He was putting up all star numbers & was barely noticed until Atlanta on the back side of his prime.

Shane Warne As a youngster trying (badly) to bowl leg breaks, he came along just at the right time to rekindle my spark in learning the dark art.....

Mickey Mantle was my idol as soon as he hit the bigs. He's the only celebrity that I actually cried for when he died.

I've said before that the sportsman who had the most profound impact on my life was Brian Booth, a former Australian Cricket and Hockey Captain long retired when I met him when I was 10. He'd remain a big part of my life for the next 5 years His son-in-law Jim taught me a lot about bowling and a lot about life. However I never saw Brian play. So my answer, the man I looked up to and aspired to bowl like was Craig "Billy" McDermott. Very under rated almost forgotten fast bowler who carried the team on his shoulders from 1990-1993 and even out bowled Shane Warne in the 95-5 Ashes series winning the Man of the Series award.
