The most recent example of this type of relationship in a film that I've seen was Slow West (2015), which I watched the other night. In it Kodi Smit-McPhee played Jay Cavendish, who found a 'mentor' of sorts in the character of Silas Selleck (played my Michael Fassbender). Silas teaches Jay how to handle a gun (and pretty much saves his butt throughout most of the film, despite Jay being mistrusting of him). And Jay teaches Silas how to dry laundry. It's more interesting/complex than I'm making it sound. They have a rather interesting mentor/protégé relationship. I found the film a bit odd at times, but at the same time intriguing - which was what kept me watching. Anyway, I realise this^ is far from the most obvious example of such a relationship between characters in movies. What are some others?

The Doctor Kildare Series Fresh out of medical school, young Dr. James Kildare decides to take a position at a large New York hospital instead of joining his father's country practice.
