The Kremlin Letter
"Stand up nephew, stand up. Now, there comes a day in the life of every smart ass little boy when he must get his comeuppance. I dont have any of that high priced training and all those fancy Oriental styles that you made such good grades in but I am going to take you. And I may kill you in the process." Peter Cushing Shane Bryant
Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell "I have been thinking about what went wrong. Too much reliance on surgery, too little on biochemistry."

Bullfighter and the Lady (1951), 124 min version. Director Budd Boetticher expresses his own love of bullfighting and Mexican culture in this outstanding drama film. A captivating performance from Robert Stack who plays an arrogant brash American Chuck Regan, who travels to Mexico and falls in love with the sultry beauty Anita de la Vega (Joy Page). In order to impress her, he convinces the famed matador Manolo Estrada (Gilbert Roland) to mentor him in the art of bullfighting ..

Casey Siemaszko serves an apprenticeship under Burt Reynolds in my favourite picture from Scottish director Bill Forsyth, 'Breaking In' (1989), scripted by John Sayles.

I thought of that one when I heard Burt Reynolds died. It's better than its rating suggests. Speaking of Burt, he's a bit of a mentor to Dirk in Boogie Nights.

Having just seen Treasure Island 1950, there is a sort of mentor/protégé relationship between Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins, even after it turns out that Silver isn't a good guy, and Silver saves Hawkins from beeing killed by his other cohorts.

A mentor/protégé relationship was also in The Curse of Frankenstein 1957, this time Victor Frankenstein is the protégé and Paul Krempe is his mentor, but this relationship goes wry when Victor just can't stop, and eventually creates a man-made creature. Robert Urquhart and Peter Cushing.
