You don't see a judge having "The Honorable John Smith" or "The Honorable Jane Smith" on their plane ticket.

You're boarding a fucking plane you twit, not visiting a hospital!... NO ONE gives a shit what your ticket says. You are just another fucking passenger to them... Get over yourself, and just be grateful that they still called you "MISS", instead of calling you "BITCH".
This is what is wrong with the world today... Everyone takes everything so fucking personally...
What's the old saying?... Isn't it: "Don't sweat the small stuff!"?
Jesus Christ... if people would just put half of their energy and focus, that they use to highlight stupid small stuff like this in this fucked up world, onto the bigger issues, the world would be a better place...
But, as long as DOCTOR O’Dwyer feels better about what people call HER... That's all that matters, isn't it?. Fuck the rest of us, right?
Maybe if DOCTOR BITCH was told "NO" a few more times as a kid, and got a spanking every once in a while, she wouldn't have turned out to be such a selfish snowflake.

Miss O'Dwyer needs to learn her rules of etiquette: Holders of Ph.Ds. customarily don't broadcast their title of "Doctor" unless they're in a professional situation in which they need to identify themselves as such. Even some medical doctors don't always want to draw attention to their professional status, otherwise they'd constantly be bothered by people wanting free medical advice. Anyone who continues to use it indiscriminately comes off as egotistical and stuffy (I'm sure I'm not the only one who found that credit at the end of The Cosby Show mentioning "Dr. William Cosby, Jr." a little irritating). The "Doctor" title may sometimes be used in formal situations such as invitations or documents, but a plane ticket hardly qualifies as such. And even if the flight attendant was wrong in addressing Miss O'Dwyer as such, a tantrum was totally unnecessary. As a "Doctor of Philosophy", she could at least have been philosophical about it.

I have no clue what he was a Doctor in. Doctoring women's drinks? Anyway, I always took it to mean it was from one of those bogus honorary degrees when he gave the key note commencement address at a college graduation.

Which means he bought the college a building of some sort. He didn't do the work to earn it.

In 1973, he received a master's degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and he earned his Doctor of Education degree in 1976, also from UMass. His dissertation discussed the use of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids as a teaching tool in elementary schools. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cosby paragraph 1
Deem, for someone who CLAIMS to have earned a Masters Degree, you sure don't do much research before you go off on your assumptive rants.
Looks like you were both in error on this one !

I don't see why someone who earns a non medical degree would call him or herself doctor if not in an academic setting. Why do they need to advertise their degrees?

Looks like you were both in error on this one ! Did you realize Marianna had mentioned bill Cosby? All I did was provide an answer to her question in general regarding the congratulatory doctorate/degree. A few people have received degrees and doctorites without doing the work. It is unfortunately a thing. In regards to bill Cosby I never thought his doctorite was bs because he created shows that focused on family values and 'making wise choices'. And the rant he made about black fathers not being in their kids lives. He's absolutely right regarding that.

WarrenPeace had commented "I have no clue what he was a Doctor in.
Anyway, I always took it to mean it was from one of those bogus honorary degrees when he gave the key note commencement address at a college graduation. "
followed by : A congratulatory doctorate in education. Which means he bought the college a building of some sort. He didn't do the work to earn it. Using a "he" rather than a name makes the "name" under discussion the "he" referred to. In this case "he" (that is, Bill Cosby )… did earn his degree. It was NOT an honorary degree.
Now I suggest that you untwist those knickers and have a good day.

I have a PhD in philosophy--and one in music, too.
I'm happy when people don't simply call me "asshole."
Well, or I don't even mind that, depending on the tone of it and who is saying it.

That's interesting!
I typed in the Anglo-Saxon term for 'A Ladies Front Bottom' and it came up 'WAFFLE!'.
