What would you consider the best and/or worst 'substitutions' in music history ?? SAVE FERRIS

Nothing against the replacements, but the original lead guitarist of the country band named Sawyer Brown also played the fiddle and so in my opinion, his leaving the act in my opinion was a big loss. To me, he brought a great deal to the act.
God bless you and him and the other members of the awesome act always!!!
Holly
P.S. Here is their appearance on Star Search in 1983 which is how they scored their first recording contract.

Best pivot might be New Order...Adding Gillian Gilbert and tweaking the sound after Ian's death worked wonderfully...Best out and out substitution might be Dio in for Ozzy in Sabbath

Best out and out substitution might be Dio in for Ozzy in Sabbath Could be. Other candidates for best substitution would be Bruce Dickinson for Paul Di'Anno in Maiden and Brian Johnson for Bon Scott in AC/DC. Worst substitution could be Blaze Bayley for Bruce Dickinson in Maiden.

Best:
Neil Peart replacing John Rutsey in Rush. David Gilmour replacing Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman replacing Peter Banks and Tony Kaye in Yes.
And then there are bands who carried on without their original frontman who was irreplaceable. INXS for example.

Worst: Adam Lambert

Not sure about the best. I always thought Mick Taylor was a better pure guitarist than Brian Jones. Jones was the more accomplished musician overall. And he was pretty useless at the end
Worst is easy Kenney Jones for Keith Moon. No one could have replaced Moon but Jones was weak, weak, weak. Sid Vicious for Glen Matlock. My grandson's goldfish is a better bass player than Sidney
A lot of "pushes". Dio in for Ozzy, Hagar in for Roth

Oh yeah. The worst is Phil Collins being replaced by Ray Wilson in Genesis. Calling All Stations is unlistenable.
The lineup change that resulted in the Velvet Underground's Squeeze was also one of the worst.

I agree if you mean with Queen. Speaking of American Idol contestants that have become the lead singers of old bands have you heard James Durbin with Quiet Riot Admin? I didn't mind his first solo album but he sounds awful on Quiet Riot's 'Road Rage' album.
