I had a grey 1959 Beetle called Josie. I finally had to change here retractable 'ears'(indicators) for lights butt I never got around to getting a fuel gauge other than a green painted stick. I bought her for $400 and sold her over a decade later to a young cousin of mine for $400. He turned her into a dune buggy. She was not amused.

Fine with me, I like VW (my current and last car were Passats and an Audi A4 before that), never been a big fan of the Beetle though.

Fine with me, I like VW (my current and last car were Passats and an Audi A4 before that), never been a big fan of the Beetle though.Well, as a student and young Mum, my VW Beetle cost $400, in fifteen years only ever let me down three times( all my own fault once I ran out of petrol, once I forgot to put water in the battery and all I had to do was tip a glass of water into the battery and off we went and once with a broken fan belt that I should have exchanged after 10 years ) It used minimal petrol and oil and tyres (due to its light weight) was reliable and quirky, went fast enough for city driving and I sold it after 15 years again for $400. As a 'people' car' it was this person's best friend and mode of transport. I guess I was lucky that my husband had a large fast company car every three years butt my 'Josie' made my life convenient inexpensive and so much fun.' People used to laugh at her cute little 'ears'(indicators) that stuck out before I upgraded to flashing lights especially when they occasionally got stuck and you had to roll down the window and flick them back down before you got to them with a can of WD40 and they would then behave and drop down 'automatically'! In the voice of Miranda Hart 'Such fun'!
