Is this wise? Trout is a generational player. if he has a complete career, he will be the 21st Century version of DiMaggio, Williams, Musial. But will he bottom out at age 30? Will he become an injury problem. Of all organizations the Angels should abhor the thought of paying gobs of money to a player who's over the hill. And speaking of Albert Pujols, his was a similar situation in St. Louis. He was the greatest Cardinal since the aforementioned Stan the Man. The organization blanched at the thought of seeing anything but the birds on the bat on Prince Albert's chest. But they knew his contract demands were ridiculous and bit the bullet. Thing they regret it now? Pujols is a waste of space and the Angels still owe him $87,000,000. And, face it, the Angels haven't shown signs of being a playoff threat since Trout came to town. If the numbers are right, fine. If he's asking for 15 years at $30,000,000, I'd say "Good luck in your future endeavors!" No player is indispensable. And the Halos do have the onus of being the ugly stepsister to the beautiful girl in Chavez Ravine. And that won't be helped by seeing Trout walk away (swim away?). They won't dso anything until Harper and Machado sign and set the bar.

MLB teams continue to amaze me with their stupidity. They should be going the other way, towards shorter contracts, not handing out lifetime contracts. It's beyond insanity to guarantee someone every penny for the rest of his career, regardless of how he actually performs.

If he never wants to see the playoffs again, after only getting there once, sure, go for it.

If I was him I'd be looking to go elsewhere as he's pretty much wasting away his talents on the Angels. It's sad seeing the best player in baseball missing out come October time and time again. However I REALLY would hate to see him becoming a Yankee. I think he's from Jersey so it wouldn't be out of the question for him to want to play there.
I'm really interested in seeing what this years free agency will look like with Harper and Machado hitting. Last season we saw teams reluctant to give out those major long term deals. Whether or not that was because they're getting smarter or they were saving the money for this coming class idk. The thing is though, it only takes 1 dumb GM out of 30 to make the offer to over pay somebody.
