James Donald as the sole medical man in the prison camp in The Bridge On The River Kwai. Donald wasn't given much choice dialogue but his performance was outstanding.) Good choice, which reminded me of - James Donald in King Rat. And Yes, and I believe Donald's character in Quatermass & The Pit was a Dr. something, though more likely a scientist with a doctorate than an M.D. He brought what appeared to be effortless authority to every part he played.

Mel Brooks plays Dr. Richard Harpo Thorndyke, the main character, Thorndyke suffers from a neural disorder called "High Anxiety", a mix of acrophobia and vertigo, and tries to overcome the infliction. It was Brooks first speaking lead role and first as producer High Anxiety (1977) is a parody of suspense films, and most obvious of the films directed by Alfred Hitchcock in particular Spellbound, Vertigo and The Birds, and there is a great shower scene also ! The film was dedicated to Hitchcock, who apparently worked closely with Brooks on the screenplay. To show his appreciation of the finished project Hitchcock sent Brooks an expensive case of six magnums of 1961 Château Haut-Brion with a note, "A small token of my pleasure, have no anxiety about this."...
