Found myself revisiting the original Star Wars trilogy yesterday. These unaltered versions look oh so fabulous on a 65" TV; non-anamorphic DVDs sourced from a 1993 laserdisc. Star Wars is always a treat to watch, The Empire Strikes Back is overwhelmingly satisfying, then comes the third film. There's lot of good stuff, even with the iffy moments from recycling The Death Star to the cute and cuddly Ewoks who planned to roast Chewbacca over a spit to Harrison Bored. Luke's confrontation with The Emperor and his final duel with his dear old dad is pretty epic, especially when he finally gets triggered. Fantastic moment when Luke ditches his lightsaber and proclaims he is a Jedi like his father before him. For those who are about to fry, we salute you! I still think the first act, with rescuing Deckard from the clutches of Jabba The Hutt, is gold, Jerry! Gold! Return of the Jedi does suffer the most from the changes made for its Special Edition release. Yeah, you can have Vader yell "No!" but someone was so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.
Also found this nugget of information - While filming in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, crew members in brightly colored vests stood near Peter Mayhew so he wouldn't get shot by someone mistaking him for Bigfoot.

"These unaltered versions look oh so fabulous on a 65" TV; non-anamorphic DVDs sourced from a 1993 laserdisc." I've heard people say they look like shit on their HDTV's since they're non-anamorphic and you have to squeeze/stretch the picture to fit it on the screen or get it big enough to watch. There are other offensive things besides the "No!" moment like that infamous Jedi Rocks segment and having Hayden Christensen at the end of the film.

To not have the picture stretched out, it's instead just surrounded by a thick black border that takes up at least 60% of the screen.

I don't care how "toyetic" it was, still my favorite Star Wars film, I really liked all the bizzare alien creatures and sets in the film (which the more revered "Empire Stikes back" was severaly lacking.)

Probably my least favorite of the original 3 films, but I do love the Falcon flying into the death star. The space battle at the end is pretty killer. Always thought those B-Wings were pretty cool. They were my favorite in the old X-Wing game on PC back in the day. The Special Editions were a nightmare. The further changes made for the bluray release extended that nightmare. I have the old laserdiscs so I can still view them that way. They don't look too bad on a 46" but a 60" might be pushing it. I think laserdisc is about 420i, correct?
The issue I have with the whole series now though stems from ROTJ. Skywalker completes his extensive training, avoids being betrayed to the dark side and is pretty much bad to the bone. Fast forward to The Last Jedi and we have old Mary Sue knowing most of the Jedi tricks from the get go and Luke reverts to his New Hope whiny self with no backbone and unwilling to confront the Dark Side. Complete BS.

Return of the Jedi Luke - I turned a lightsaber on my father and then quickly realized I made a mistake The Last Jedi Luke - I turned a lightsaber on my nephew and then quickly realized I made a mistake
