Ebert was a bigger fan of James Toback than most critics. No matter what you think about his movies he's an interesting filmmaker. The documentary about him called the Outsider is worth watching.
When Will I Be Loved is okay. At first I thought it was pretentious crap (Toback's writing style easily comes off that way), but it grew on me. I've seen many of Toback's movies but I still haven't seen Fingers. I should see that one.
