Thanks for sharing that Biz. I am not really sure about those choices to be honest and have these been officially confirmed by Warner Bros or are they just rumours 'cause there was another list of actresses for 'Birds of Prey' that was supposedly leaked last week or the week before and that had a lot of other different actresses on it and Alexandra Daddario was said to be a frontrunner to play the Huntress. I personally think they should be going for bigger name actresses and I always find it disappointing how they cast a lot of well known celebrities as male superheroes but we rarely get any big name actresses playing female superheroes apart from Scarlet.
I am excited for the movie though and I am hoping it turns out to be really good.

I am excited for the movie though and I am hoping it turns out to be really good. Depends on the scope you are talking about in terms of big names, RDJ may have been a name but he wasn't a big star when they cast him, Norton may have been the biggest name of Phase 1 which is how he got so much control to fuck up help out on TIH, unless you just mean DC which I guess, but I dunno Cavil wasn't a huge name, Amy Adams was probably a bigger name than him in that, and Gadot is the only female superhero in the DCEU and only Affleck really was a bigger star than her at the time of casting, she wasn't hugely well known but she was probably better recognised than Cavil or the others thanks to her Fast & Furious role.
Zoe Saldana was probably the most recognisable of the proper cast in Guardians, Brie Larson is an academy award winner, Elisabeth Olsen was about on par with the guy who played Quicksilver for me in terms of recognisability and name value, Sophie Turner was the biggest name of the newer X-Men in Apocalypse and Maisie Williams & Anna Taylor Joy are the big names for New Mutants also.
I don't think they really do hire big names for these roles to be quite honest, most go on to be big names but when you look back at it who was Chris Pratt or Hemsworth prior to the MCU, who was Tom Holland, I mean some of it comes down to they were well known within Hollywood and those who follow film closely but for the masses most of these people aren't well known, you get the occasional ones like a Cumbersnatch who people do recognise from other things, but for the most part they hire lesser known people because it's cheaper, and you have one or two names that are most likely disposable like a Bacon for First Class or Michael B Jordan for Black Panther.
Thankfully though if we get more female superheroes in the MCU which I do not doubt we will now thanks to Marvel having a full roster to choose from, and with the MCU now out from under Perlmutter's scrooge like fingers we'll see more names being hired.

They tend to avoid casting big names. I think that's because they want you to see the character and not the star.

You kinda have a point there but Robert actually was a big star earlier in his career and was in a number of hit movies but then he kept getting arrested in the 90s for possession of drugs like cocaine, heroin and marijuana and he was fired from multiple roles for being difficult to work with and it looked like Robert was going to make a comeback when he was in ‘Ally McBeal’ but then he got arrested again and was fired from the show. At one point he said he didn’t “give a fuck if he ever acted again or not” and he went through a very dark period and a lot of people thought that his career was done for until he went to rehab and got his career back on track. It was his role in ‘The Singing Detective’ which was seen as his comeback and he then went on to appear in other films like ‘Gotthika’, ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ and ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ before getting the lead role in ‘Iron Man and he wasn’t an A lister but he was well known for his older movies to many unlike a lot of other actors. This point of his career is basically his comeback as he was a star years ago.
Henry Cavil wasn’t a big name and I can honestly say I never heard of him before Man of Steel but I knew of Amy Adams going back to when she was in ‘Buffy’ and ‘Cruel Intentions 2’ and I just think it would have been better if they had gone with a big name actress for ‘Wonder Woman but looking at some of the things I have been reading lately Warner Bros did have some big names in mind but they all turned them down including Kate Beckinsale, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, Jessica Biel, Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, Megan Fox, Teresa Palmer, Eliza Dushku and Beyonce and I didn’t realise so many actresses had turned it down and have no idea why. I heard Kate turned it down 'cause she was worried her children would be embarrassed over her wearing the costume and with Angelina Jolie it was said to be about the money but I am not sure about the others. Jennifer Love Hewitt was said to be strongly campaigning for it a few years back but they didn’t go through with the movie back then and she retired from acting for a short time after her Mum died and has only returned now. I am interested in who they cast in the roles of the 'X Men' and if they cast a heap of big name actors in roles like Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Storm and Gambit for example or a bunch of unknowns 'cause with the size of the team they could make it a big team up of some of Hollywood's biggest names.

Also I think they choose not to hire big names because then the role just becomes another credit on an actors imdb page, they seem to like to hire people who the part becomes a career defining role for them, the larger names tend not to have this, Pratt & Batista will always be Quill & Drax to the fans, Downey is Tony Stark now and forever same with Jackson as Wolverine, you get the few who have multiple defining roles such as Stewart, Mackellan, Cumberbitch and such.
I did not know all that about Wonder Woman but I wonder just how specific that is, I mean could be all over because I dunno I love her and want to see her in everything but Eliza Dusku is hardly the most in demand actress, I find it hard seeing her turning down the lead in a $150m budget movie, the lead in the potential WW TV show from a decade ago then yeah I can buy that.
I doubt in the next X-Men movie they will hire a team of big stars, they cost a lot of money and with a team of mutants effects aren't going to be cheap especially as the MCU cant get away with trying to ground stuff too much because of the world the MCU has built already, and X-Men have a ceiling on them till now of $600-700m unless you are Deadpool in which case you can exceed $700m and get closer to $800m, I imagine it will get maybe 3-4 stars then a bunch of relatively unknown actors but not mega A listers well except for the villain unless that's going to be Magneto, that way they can use them to promote the show on chat shows and such with someone else and kill them off in the film.
I tell you one thing I hope they don't rely on Magneto too much, I love the character and all but they cast him perfectly twice somehow I don't think 3rd time will be the charm again, plus they have so many other great characters to use, I want Sinister dammit.

I wish there was a way the MCU could bring in the X-Men but leave the existing cast. I have no idea how that would work but I'm sure they could come up with an explanation.

Meh all I would care about is Mcavoy & Fassbender, everyone else I could care less about, well except the Deadpool crew but they are removed enough they can easily transfer over anyway, but the rest of the X-Men I could do with a new set of them except Xavier & Magneto, even Quicksilver is less imo to do with the actor and more to do with his fun speedster scenes which honestly anyone with that character could probably pull off, tell you one thing I will be glad when they kill of Mystique in Dark Phoenix, never liked her as the character even when she half tried, but since she's been sleeping through these movies since FC I really don't like her in them.

Well both Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell have been cast as Huntress and Black Canary respectively.

They got lost on they're way to consult with you. They went to Austria instead of Australia.

Oh. Okay. Yeah. You are right about Robert Downey Jr not being a big Hollywood star at the time he got the role of Iron Man and I didn’t know Terrence Howard was originally going to play the role and I just looked him up ‘cause I wasn’t sure who that was but wow, that wouldn’t have gone down very well with the racists who spent months and months complaining over Black Panther if that was who Marvel originally had in mind and I could just imagine the tantrums that would be thrown now if the MCU rebooted today and had an African American actor playing Iron Man. Although I don’t seem to recall there being this much hate over things like that back when Iron Man first came out in2008 and there were some but in the past decade they have become far more vocal and spread out on sites.
I wasn’t aware the actor who played Happy Hogan was the director and executive producer of some of the Marvel movies either and I knew I had seen him in other movies before but I assumed he was just an actor and not somebody who works behind the scenes. What you wrote about bigger names not being chosen ‘cause the role would just become another credit on their IMDB page instead of it being a defining part of their acting career is the opposite of what I have heard about actors turning down superhero roles and there were a number of Action stars in the 90s that turned down playing superheroes ‘cause they didn’t want to be typecast and were worried if they played superheroes in movies they would be and it would cast a shadow on their career and Bruce Willis, Steven Segal and Jean Claude Van Damme were some big name Action stars that all said they turned down playing superheroes.
Arnold Schwarzenegger did too and at one point Arnold was the favourite to play Batman in ‘Batman & Robin’ but he turned it down ‘cause he had been playing the hero in so many of his movies and he wanted to play a villain for a change and they gave him the role of Mr. Freeze instead and you know what happened with that movie but some of his fans believe if Arnold had played Batman the movie wouldn’t have flopped and they would have continued making multiple Batman movies with Arnold and not having him play Batman killed the movie and I am not sure about that but I knew some fans of his that weren’t happy with him playing the villain and thought George Clooney was a lame choice to play Batman. With Eliza I heard David Borenaz turned down playing Superman ‘cause he thought he would look ridiculous in the Superman costume and it could be Eliza didn’t like the Wonder Woman costume.
You are probably right about the X Men getting three or four big name actors and I think Cyclops will benefit the most from having a big name actor ‘cause while I had nothing against James and liked his movie, ‘Disturbing Behavior’ (which was what I first saw him in) he came across as boring and dull as Cyclops and if they want the character to stand out they need to get an actor with more personality and charisma who will bring some edge to the role. I am hoping they move on to other villains aside from Magneto this time too ‘cause he is very much like Lex Luthor and the Joker at this point and has been given too much focus over other X Men villains we haven’t seen on screen. I am also hoping we get to see more focus on other X Men especially Rogue and Gambit and they should have Emma Frost as a hero on the team.

No Deb you misunderstood me, Terrence Howard was who the studio dictated who would play Rhodey in exchange for letting Favreau cast Downey as Stark, Howard was considered to be the safety net or draw to the film because they didn't really believe in RDJ, that's why Howard was paid more for IM1 than RDJ was, but when IM1 was a hit and RDJ became an overnight superstar again they knew for IM2 they would need to pay RDJ more and they didn't need to pay for Howard which is why they then recast him, because I dunno whats true but ive heard some stories Howard had a favoured nations deal in place to where he would have to be paid the same as Downey if Downey got a big bump, Howard though claims RDJ demanded not only his bump but Howard's money as well, but Howard is a lunatic so I dunno how much I buy that.
Yeah Favreau made the first 2 Iron Man films, essentially setting the stage for the MCU, he also made the Jungle Book movie the other year and Lion King plus the new SW live action show, he's pretty tight with Disney, it surprised me when I realised it also, and made me chuckle to think this guy is the director and he's making himself the but of the jokes a bunch, kind of makes his fight with the 1 guy in IM2 when Black Widow just trounces an entire hallway full of them funnier to me.
As for the roles becoming career defining, what I mean is I think that's what the studio wants, partially because that way it keeps the talent beholden to them, doesn't always work, especially if it's not the studio but the director who is the one going to bat for them ala Gunn & Batista because Big Dave has no loyalty to Marvel but he has a shit load for Gunn, also made sense for actors not to want to be labelled back in the day as that could kill a career, but now it doesn't, movies or shows will simply use that notoriety more, even nod to it in the show or films, also what superhero stuff meant pre-2008 isn't anything like it is now, once TDK broke a billion it changed how people viewed those films a lot, also franchises have become the way of cinema now, everyone knows that's what makes the big money, only 2 films in the last 20 years that topped the BO haven't been franchise films at that time atleast.
I dunno about Cyclops I mean he's kind of a dull character as is, even in the 90's cartoon he was the wet blanket of the team, Evolution made him interesting but I don't think he's ever been the most engaging of characters, plus he seems like a dick a lot, with Magneto I wouldn't mind if they used him but they need to move away from him being the enemy in every film, especially the Magneto turns storyline which we have seen 4 out of the 6 films, atleast in Apocalypse he turned good instead of bad which was a change atleast.

Jon Favreau also directed Elf, in which he has a small appearance.
And Zathura, with Kirsten Stewart before she became Bella Swan.

Oh. Okay.

Sorry. I get you now. It is kinda hard to tell who is telling the truth and who is making up lies when it comes to money in Hollywood especially if the figure is in the millions ‘cause there are going to be some money hungry vultures who will claim they are owed all kinds of things they are not and with Howard I don’t know if he is telling the truth either ‘cause I don’t know him personally and was not there at the time he claimed Robert Downey Jr demanded those things. Although, if we assume Howard is telling the truth and Robert Downey Jr screwed him out of a lot of money why did Howard not take him to court over it? I mean America has a reputation for its court cases and there are some people who take each other to court over the silliest of things but Howard chose not to pursue it.
That makes me think Howard might be making that up just to get his name mentioned or he thought nobody would believe him over Robert Downey Jr but whatever it was ‘Iron Man 2’ came out a while ago now and I doubt he will be following it up again. He claimed he signed up for a three picture deal and they came to him when they were developing the second one and told him they were only going to pay him one-eighth of what he got paid for the first movie ‘cause they believed the film would be successful with or without him and he called up Robert Downey Jr about it but he did not get back to him for over three months so I don’t know. Yeah. I didn’t know Jon Favreau made the first two ‘Iron Man’ films or he made the live action adaptions of ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘The Lion King’ and I am not somebody who really pays that much attention to the directors or producers of movies.
I usually see movies based on genre, the actors and actresses that are in them, if my friends of family like them and tell me they are good or if they are based on novels or comic books I like and it’s funny Jon Favreau puts himself in his movies like that and he probably finds it funny to be playing the ‘butt of jokes’ so to speak and his family and friends might too. I mean I couldn’t really picture him playing a superhero role () so playing a role like that allows him to be in the movies. Most of Stan Lee's cameos in Marvel movies have been comedic and I don't think he sees himself as an actor. Regarding Batista I think he is at a point in his career where he doesn't need Marvel or movies 'cause he already had a successful career as a wrestler and will be a future WWE Hall of Famer. With what was hinted with Batista and Triple H on 'Smackdown 1000' it looks like he is coming back to WWE for a match with Triple H at Wrestlemania and I wouldn't mind seeing Dave have one last run in WWE and retire from wrestling permanently 'cause he has said in interviews he was not happy with the way things ended last time and would like one last run and a lot of people still want to see Batista vs Brock Lesnar. With Brock as the WWE Universal Champion again now they could have Batista beat him at the Royal Rumble and have Triple H cost him the title and have them go on to face each other at Wrestlemania.

They got lost on they're way to consult with you. They went to Austria instead of Australia. Damn. That had to be disappointing.

I’d rather see that too. Bring him back to WWE. With Roman out they are down a wrestler and his movie career can wait because he can do that anytime until he dies but he is getting to the age where he is going to be too old to wrestle soon so one more year as a wrestler in WWE would be good for him and his fans and set him up for the WWE Hall Of Fame.
