Chas Hodges dies at 74I remember loving Chas & Dave when I was a kid...dismissing them in my teens...the appreciating them later. Their "Rockney" music was easily dismissed by some as a novelty, but in their attempt to make a Cockney folk music/rock'n'roll blend they were pretty successful. The two lived locally so it was a bit of a thrill sometimes walking to school and seeing a bona fide chart star walk past you, which happened often. Saw a documentary about them in recent years and it was quite astounding some of the names they worked with and supported - The Beatles, Labi Siffre, Richie Blackmore, Led Zeppelin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent, Phil Lynott, Albert Lee to name a few. Probably little known outside the UK, but also probably much heard...Chas & Dave's session work on Labi Siffre's tune, "I Got The" was the sample/hook used on Eminem's "My Name Is"
