I wonder if they would ever actually do a True Remake of The Original "FRIDAY THE 13th" Movie (Not the 2009 Movie) in which Jason's Mother was The Main Killer and Not Jason Himself.
What does everybody else here think ?

It could work, but it would just feel pointless. Betsy Palmer was perfect in the role. Heck I actually admired the 2009 remake for having Jason as the central killer, because it’s him that popularized Friday the 13th.
As classic as the original is, I wouldn’t want to see another retread of that story. The way they would do a twist would be stupid since the fans already know about that.

Sounds like another Psycho (1998) fiasco.

How about a remake, not necessarily faithful to the original, featuring the cast of Friday?
Your new Jason:

I don't know about Hollywood, but I know when I do something that unexpectedly turns out to be good, I think twice trying it again.
They can do killer Jason movies until the end of time, but I think the twist in the first "Friday the 13th" installment wouldn't work a second time. It's a great role though...
Though Betsy Palmer totally nailed it, I'd not be opposed to seeing someone like Julianne Moore, Sigourney Weaver, Helen Mirren, or Kathy Bates have a crack at it. Hell, ask Jamie Lee Curtis, Susan Surrandon, Jodie Foster, and Helena Bohham-Carter too. Unfortunately, I think this particular twist only works once.

Well if they wanted to go with a BIG Name Actress to play "Mrs. Voorhees" then I actually think that Charlize Theron would be a Great Choice to play her.

I honestly think they should just let the franchise lie as it is. They were fun 80s B-movies. Any attempt to revive the series just won't feel right.

What does everybody else here think ? As others have pointed out the surprise twist is over. The only way they could get away with it is if some random weird kid who was not the killer ran around wearing a hockey mask and just happened to be at each murder scene either before or after it happened. Or else have the mom wearing it. But hockey masks look different now. BTW: Where did Jason ever get it in the first place? Like did he break into a closed sporting goods store? I doubt he would have found it at the camp because there is no reason why one would be there.

I'm tired of remakes. The original was made when summer camps and camping in general were a trend. The clothes, attitudes of the characters, etc. all captured the era just so perfectly. Something made today just wouldn't have that.

You are right, it would be pointless. The suspense is gone. From what I remember of the 09 movie, it wasn't half bad. I don't think I've seen the whole thing from start to finish, but I remember thinking it was entertaining for a slasher flick; which don't really exist anymore.

Though the idea that Jason might have had some old mine tunnels wasn't a bad idea and as to explain how he could pop up here and there unexpectably

The Opening Credits with the Flashbacks showing when Jason's Mother (who was Played by Nana Visitor whom I think is a Terrific Actress, I loved her on " STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE") attacked Camp Crystal Lake and how she was killed and then later on when the Police Officer (who was Played by Richard Burgi whom I think is Another Great Actor) was killed. That was a Pretty Cool Kill by Jason Voorhees! Of course then again, when it comes to killing people.....Jason Voorhees is a Pro!

Honestly though, when it comes down to it....These below would be My own Top 10 Choices for who should Play "Mrs. Voorhees" in a Remake of the Original 1980 " FRIDAY THE 13th" Movie. 1. Charlize Theron 2. Jennifer Garner 3. Neve Campbell 4. Angelina Jolie 5. Kate Beckinsale 6. Michelle Pfeiffer 7. Julianne Moore 8. Rachel Weisz 9. Jessica Chastain 10. Cate Blanchett

I honestly think they should just let the franchise lie as it is. They were fun 80s B-movies. Any attempt to revive the series just won't feel right. Exactly. The thing with almost every remake is that you cannot remake the spirit, and the spirit (of the original) has something to do with the climate of the times. And you just can't replicate that.

Is Friday the 13th (1980) as good as Halloween (1978)?
