I like T2 better than the first for the exact reason you like it less. I do love both, and I think T2 is better in a number of ways, but T1 is just more dreadful in its tone and the low-budget aspect added to the style it was going for. I get it. T2 is just more my style.

HM: Night of the Comet
If The Terminator were on there, I'd vote for it. I go back and forth on it being horror. It does play like a slasher movie at first, but pretty much is just action from the Tech-Noir scene on.

Of the King adapatations in this era, 3 from 83 - Christine, Cujo and The Dead Zone and Firestarter in 84', I prefer Firestarter as an overall presentation and film, especially compared to the faithfulness of the film's story to the book. I haven't read any of his books, but Firestarter is my favorite of those movies too.
