I had never heard of Spookies but after watching the crazy trailer below I want to see it now. I assumed from the title it was one of the many ripoffs of Gremlins but it looks more like a ripoff of Ghoulies which was of course a rip off of Gremlins with larger monsters and demons to go with the little monsters and much more violence.
The "mama mama" part is even sort of creepy.

I see why we're picking five. Clearly the best year in horror in the last fifty years or so. I had to leave out about four that would easily be in the top three in any other year you list.

All of these would be in the top three in any other year. Easily, the most imaginative, ground breaking, and risk taking list of horror movies in a year for the past fifty years.

Has anyone here watched Spookies? I've seen most of the Gremlins rip offs but not that one. It’s a cheapjack horror-comedy, but fairly entertaining. Supposedly it’s two seperate films spliced together, and it shows. Ambitious, yet very patchwork. Kinda reminded me of “Ghoulies”, an evil sorcerer and a rundown mansion with a group of young adults, but there’s also a collection of different monsters (muck men, zombies, spider lady) with some cool make-up FX. |

It’s prob not the best film on the list but Invaders from Mars legit scared the piss out of me as a kid. I remember waking up from a dead sleep thinking I saw a flash of lights out my bedroom window.

I am not a huge fan of Aliens tbh. It's a good movie for sure, but that is all it is for me. I like body horror, I love Cronenerg's directing style and I love Jeff Goldblum. Naturally I am a big fan of The Fly. It is also one of the few horror movies that actually scares me. I laughed at The Fly and I actually prefer to watch the The Fly II - 89'.
I love Aliens and while there are some excellent picks, it would be my choice, although it was more than just horror.
