They tend to recycle stories and plot motifs. I'm sure the Phoenix will be handled better than Last Stand, but there's still a lot of similar stuff and setups for the Phoenix, and some usual tropes to expect from an X-Men film, particularly with Magneto. I'm sure we can expect him half way through the film to turn 'bad" and start killing humans again.

I think the film is going to make audiences side with Magneto over Xavier.

No he doesnt, weirdraptor is a retard who doesnt actually think for himself he just parrots what samhd says.
Magneto in this movie is not going to betray and then align. Hes taken a safe haven in Genosha and Jean comes to HIM and not the other way round in X3. Magneto is likely going to be an ally to Charles against Chastain, Phoneix and the aliens.

Looks more like Beast is the betrayer here and sides with Magneto who is against Charles and Jean. It probably will be the same as DoFP where he teams up with Charles to help, but then turns on him to kill Jean.

so the raptor had a point about Fox Men being as formulaic as MCU?
I would not count on the raptor' insight though, raptor was the one claiming Shakespeare has never written an original thing too. He was as clumsy as he was stupid.

It is my sad duty to report that Weirdraptor passed away today in a freak accident involving a "bombing science" experiment and inordinate quantities of Krylon-brand spray paint. He is survived by a jersey knit beanie with decrative pom poms and some whippets.

Well, this is what happens when you have a directionless franchise. The higher ups at Fox don't really know what to do with these characters and when they hit a homerun they put their arms up in the air and go "okay, now what do we do?"

It’s not exactly directionless. They have been wanting to do Dark Phoenix since Days of Future Past, there is even subtle set-ups in that movie.

But it's expected Jean would become The Dark Phoenix at some point, and beyond that they don't really have a complete, unified vision of the franchise or are striving very hard to connect their entire related content( film and television). How do The Gifted, Legion, Logan, and Deadpool all tie in together? The X-Men of course, but the same X-Men from the movies or totally different versions yet to be explored?

It's a shame really since the X-men saga has some of the most diverse storylines among comicbook characters. As was mentioned before, the Shi'ar empire and Savage land storylines were great, there's the whole Phoenix saga and the proper Age of Apocalypse. Fox had one of the most powerful comicbook franchises in its hands and all it could do was repeat the same record over and over again with just slight variations. What a waste. Hopefully Disney will do this franchise justice.
