Watched it for the first time last night and gotta say...I was a little disappointed.
The movies within the movie were good, but the wrap-around story was just so lifeless and unengaging. I love Jill Schoelen but even she didn't inspire much interest in the proceedings. Worth a watch for the meta stuff, but Matinee did this sort of thing much better just a few years later.
6/10

I'm the opposite, I guess. I don't like the films within the film, but I do like the wrap-around story. I like the characters and I like their interactions. One thing I don't like is the weird supernatural nature of some events that don't seem to pan out.
It's an okay movie, and I definitely think it could have been better, but I do have a soft spot for it.

I know this had a troubled production (as chronicled on the Blu-ray), so I get the feeling there's a much better, more consistent movie in there somewhere.

It's not great but still a rather fun movie with a memorable villain and some creepy scenes. I looove the movie theater setting and the films within a film. It's kind of underrated actually.

Yep, felt exactly the same... but it was a rewatch for me during the October challenge. I remember enjoying it when I first watched it, but this time around I kind of found it a bit a of slog... especially, like yourself, when the scenes weren’t focusing on the gimmicky movie spoofs. Starts off interesting enough, and the first death is amusingly staged... but after that, for me, it felt pretty uninspired to what had gone before it. Schoelen kept me watching during those moments.
