Great Movie, and I loved JoBeth Williams' performance. Years later, I was surprised to learn... That the basic plot for this movie, intentional or not, had some basis in reality... The Newport Subdivision in Crosby, Texas was built over Black Hope Cemetery... an old Nineteenth Century cemetery for African Americans... And yes, many of the bodies were not moved before the Subdivision was built... Even some residents claimed that their homes have been haunted by those that are still buried. unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Black_Hope

One of my favorite chiller-horror movies.
Though I haven't seen it in a long long time

It's one of my favorite horror films of all time. I definitely loved JoBeth Williams's performance, and Heather O'Rourke was angelic in the film. I found the movie to be a really good condemnation of American capitalism, here in this film laying the ideal American suburb on a graveyard at the expense of the dead. That said, shouldn't the entire neighborhood be haunted by the poltergeist instead of only the Freeling family?

I can never swim in a pool now unless I know beforehand whether or not if it's built on top of an ancient Indian burial ground. Thanks a lot, Poltergeist!

Have you seen the musical 'Poultrygeist : Night Of The Chicken Dead' (2006)? You may never eat chicken again. Still waiting for the sequel (along with 'Return To Nuke Em High Vol. 2').

Great "suspend that disbelief" film even for non-die-hard-horror-fans !

Thanks a lot, Poltergeist! and then there's the shark worry from that other movie ! Perhaps you'd better stick to watching Esther Williams and Johnny Weismueller when it comes to films with swimming !

I haven't see Poultrygeist, nor did I realize it was a musical! It's on YouTube though so maybe I should check it out.

Still remains one of my favorite horror movies of all time. A real rollercoaster ride of a film; fantastic special effects and powerful shock scenes.
