Sigh, I wanted to like this one as much as some people I know did, but I personally felt it was just okay. I never felt that he was ever truly in danger, and I felt the acting and script were overall goofy at times. People complain about this being considered a comedy at the Golden Globes, but if you watch it closely it was very much a Dramedy. There were quite a few times my theater laughed at the jokes or lines etc.
It was far too easy for them to save him in the end. That entire final mission to save him was so easily done, it frustrated me. Also, China would never be that involved in trying to save one of our people trapped in Space.
Sebastian Stan and Kate Mara being very attractive at least added some eye candy.
6/10 for me. Not terrible but not that good either. Overhyped and overpraised. Also, Jessica Chastains crying to the media how she was paid so much less than Matt Damon (for a much smaller role) annoyed me enough for this movie to be forever tainted in feminazi bullshit.
Your honest thoughts and opinions?

Ah, see it’s the reverse for me. I hugely enjoyed it. It was Ridley Scott’s best movie in years.

Complete disappointment. It was advertised as a kind of Cast Away on Mars, turned out to be a lowbrow bore with pop songs and lot of Earth scenes. /5

The first half is Cast Away on Mars and the second half is Apollo 13.

Great film. Possibly one of the last great films of the decade.

Didn't Matt Damon win a Golden Globe for Best Comedic Performance or something like that for this film? I wouldn't call this film a comedy.

Not with the one liners and comedy mixed in the drama. It was also very "light hearted" compared to Interstellar and Gravity.

I thought it was really good. It doesn’t try to take itself too seriously, while also having the ability to make us feel Matt Damon's struggles being stuck on Mars. It’s a lot of fun and well worth the praise it gets. 8/10

I didn't realize Chastain did that. But, yes, she is wrong. And I'm not even a fan of Damon. He is clearly the star.

Yup... she complained about making only $7 million to Damons $25 million and of course made it about gender rather than the fact he's THE star of the film, and a BIG STAR in general, she isnt at that level. www.indiewire.com/2015/10/jessica-chastain-says-she-was-paid-less-than-a-quarter-of-her-reported-salary-of-the-martian-111110/

Excellent movie, 9/10.
It loses a point because having a storm that powerful on mars is an utter impossibility.

I'd say for Jessica she should have gotten more than 7 million (or at least have gotten a percentage gross) since she does have a main role and is a marquee star. However, her role is much smaller compared to Damon's so I don't think she should get the exact pay as Damon or very near it. Maybe up to, say, $14 million would have been more appropriate. For that kind of film, her status, and a main role, she probably should have gotten at least an eight figure pay like Damon.

Also, Damon is an international superstar. He's famous all over the world. Chastain isnt.
