Well we remember what happened the last time a Spielberg classic got updated with CGI...……….. movieweb.com/jaws-rerelease-cgi-shark-richard-dreyfuss-wishes/"I think they should do it, it would be huge and it would open up the film to younger people. Is that blasphemy? No, no, I don't think so. The technology now could make the shark look as good as the rest of the movie."

I have nothing against that. If they want to clean up the effects, then have at it, as long as it's the very best quality.
We'll still have the original.
I know people didn't like when they remastered the original Star Trek but I think that turned out great. I prefer those to the original. Sorry, purists.

To quote the once great Spielberg "If Jaws were made today, we would see the shark a lot more and it would NOT be a better movie."

Can’t think of a single CG shark in a movie that looked much better than the shark in Jaws.

The SCARE is in the anticipation of the shark and once we do see him....he is plenty scary as he is. Well .. maybe not in this picture ! BUT here ? Yah !

Not a fan of Jaws but I am over the remakes and remasters and reboots etc. Just leave it alone. The phony looking shark was a product of it's time and it's not like CGI looks that great anyway. Look at the Star Wars prequels.

It would be interesting to see IF it could be done in a retro style--like they were acting as if they were building a better mechanical shark in 1975. If they kept to that kind of thinking the CGI might look pretty good. If on the other hand they do it like a modern film it will not look any better because the physics will be cartoony. I saw that Jaws 4 CGI makeover and the FX look too modernish. They should get the old ILM FX experts who did Jurassic Park to handle it-then it might be impressively done.
The shots of the shark that need some work are the ones with the stiff body movements and also doing something with the underwater shark footage that is not consistent with the scale of the mechanical shark.

If Richard Dreyfuss agrees to do "What About Bob 2," we got a deal.
Otherwise, I'm surprised anyone would want to tamper with "Jaws."

No. That's false.
There are amply online versions like the famous en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmy%27s_Despecialized_Edition
Also you can get the the DVD with a version of the theatrical edition, or buy old VHS tapes.
Where there is a will there's a way. My way is to prefer the special editions for IV and V, but being mixed on VI.

I'd rather see a revised CGI version of Mr. Holland's Opus.
