Very tough call. I'll go with Julie Newmar, but there are many strong contenders.

Raquel Welch whenever she was on TV Raquel Welch actually auditioned for the role of Mary Anne on Gilligan's Island. As hot and gorgeous as she absolutely was, Raquel Welch would not have been a good choice for the role of Mary Ann. She has never come across as warm or likeable in the least bit. I think she is actually kind of unlikeable. It's hard to pin it down. But it's almost gross. I remember seeing an Oscar clip from the 1972 show and she and Gene Hackman presented an award. Raquel was trying very hard to sound intelligent, but she was just messing up all over the place. And then add some snottiness into the mix and it was just a big turn off. I can't think of a less attractive personality combo than dumb and snotty. If you're going to be snotty, you'd better be sharp. And if you're going to be dumb, you'd better be kind. Great looks be damned. And I think you could tell that Gene was having none of it. Supposedly later that night, Gene and Cloris Leachman got together in a hotel room and had great sex. (don't remember where I read that, but I did read it somewhere) Where Raquel had almost zero personality, Cloris got a double dose of it, and back in 1972, she was radiant and very sexy. Gene had good taste.

Gene had good taste. Thank you! Raquel had striking beauty but that was not what Sherwood was looking for in casting that role. He was looking for a wholesome, 'Betty' to Ginger's 'Veronica'. They already had bombshell with Ginger. They needed someone "one could bring home to mother". #justnotRaquel.
