It was OK. I thought they wasted too much time on the creation and growth of the thing, and not the murder and mayhem that followed. Also, why is Adrien Brody in this? Also also, this is the film that led me to post my "Is Sarah Polley a good actress" thread, because I thought she was poor/unbelievable in this.

Just curious.
What did you find wrong with Sarah Polley's performance?

Overall I really dug it when I saw it but can completely understand how a lot of folks hate it (its rated 5.7 on imdb after all haha) . Very effed up little sci fi film that I happened to enjoy. 6.5/10

Pretty smart - and topical - variation on the cautionary frankenstein theme, with slick production values. It could do with some more likeable lead actors, but that's a minor complaint. Watched it several times and will go 6/10 for an uncommonly worthwhile science horror.

Possibly because I'm not a parent, and it is very observational to me.

It's a top 10 horror for me from the 2000s decade. Loved every minute, really spun me out. I do like director Vincenzo Natali's films in general though. If you like this one, check out 'Cube' (1997) and 'Cypher' (2002).

Just curious. What did you find wrong with Sarah Polley's performance? She wasn't convincing to me as a scientist. Just her mannerisms and delivery was weak IMO.

beyond science horror..
The maternal cruelty scene with the tail and scalpel was supposed to be some sort of observation on parental psychology.I wouldn't really know, but I suppose that some mothers can behave that way.

I'm one of those Adrien Brody fans, he's always interesting to watch, for me anyway. And Sarah Pulley is a Canadian treasure, just watched her the other day as a small child in the horror flick, Blue Monkey (1987) (a.k.a. Insect!). She's also in Dawn of the Dead (2004), so she has some deep roots in the horror and sci-fi genres.
Splice was a creepy and disturbing little movie, I'd recommend it.

Ah! the girl with a tail movie.
I've seen it, and I agree that it is disturbing, but can't really decide what to think about it.

Gonna get this out of the way: Sarah Polley as a scientist in Splice was more convincing than Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist in The World is not Enough.
