One of those movies loved by genuine cineastes but seemingly unknown by the vast majority of the population (maybe that can be said about a lot of "old" movies). Darker than dark. I've only seen it once and it's one of a multitude of movies I've intended to revisit but haven't gotten to yet.

Certainly earns its title. It’s a melancholy film. But it’s also got one of Bogart’s more interesting roles.

I need to watch this again - I have also only seen it once. Spectacular work by Bogart and Grahame.

A fantastic movie. I feel like its quietly getting a lot more love of late.
So who knows, it may find its way onto a fresh AFI list, and then gain a whole new following.

Two decades since I saw it. One of my top three Bogies.
I used to own a VHS. There is a Criterion DVD but I cannot afford it. Maybe someone will buy it for me as festive Christmas present?

I was lucky to get this cheaply. BOTH due for a 2nd look.

Anyone else seen THE GIRL ON THE LATE, LATE SHOW? A 1974 tv movie about a tv producer seeking the star of old movies. This one is shown prominently since Gloria Grahame is the star he is searching for.

One of many movies that I need to rewatch some day, since I think I was too immature the last time, many years ago. Naked Nerves translated back to English, meaning wearing the nerves on the outside, or being very edgy.

GRAHAME looked absolutely regal in this one.

Probably my favorite Bogart, and one of my favorite noirs. Very bleak. Like a few others have said, long overdue for a rewatch.

I love how between this and sierra madre really we get a nice glimpse of Bogart stretching his acting muscles.

rewatched this over the christmas-new year holidays. i liked petro's interpretation of the movie:
but i was wondering if the whole film was like a metaphor for society interfering in the rights and personality of an artist. the police and other members of society want dix to behave in a particular way. but he is his own man. his callous manner initially attracts his beautiful neighbor. but even she cannot take his violent temper after a certain point.

Dixon Steele (Bogy): Oh, I love a picnic. Acres and acres of sand and all of it in your food. Laurel Gray (Gloria Grahame): Stop griping. Just lie still and inhale. Dixon Steele : What, sand? Laurel Gray : No, air - and don't let it go to your head.
Dixon Steele (Bogy): I was born when she kissed me. I died when she left me. I lived a few weeks while she loved me.

Just over the holidays I lent my father the two Bogart box sets I own and he is loving his stuff all over again, when I get them back it's my turn to revisit and reassess my old reviews of them.
In A Lonely Place is top draw Bogart and top draw noir. 9.5/10 when I last watched in 2009.
