This question was bound to be asked sooner or later, so I felt I might as well be the one to ask it here.
I, personally, prefer mechanical web shooters for Spider-Man, for the following reasons:
1. They were in the comics.
2. When Spider-Man has the power to shoot web, it removes a big part of the comics. At many points, Spidey would need to use his web, but would discover that he had run out, leaving him to have to use his intellect to come up with another solution to his problem quickly. With organic web, this never happens, taking away a big part of his character.
Time for the answers to the responses I often hear from people:
They say: It makes more sense for Spidey to have the power to shoot web, because he has spider powers. Why would the spider bite not give him the power to shoot web?
I say: If Spidey must have the power to shoot web solely because it's a trait that spiders have, then he should also logically have eight legs and eight eyes like real spiders do. Just because he has spider traits doesn't mean he has ALL spider traits. Spiders don't shoot web out of their hands anyway. They shoot them out of their butts. Don't you think if Spidey actually had the power to shoot web he would actually do it more like how real spiders do it? And no, this is not me saying that a new adaptation should have Spidey shoot the web out of his butt. I'm just saying that I can see why Stan Lee and the rest of the comic writers didn't go with the organic web route.
They say: Why should Peter Parker, a high school student, know how to make artificial web when the greatest scientists in the world can't?
I say: Some adaptations of Spider-Man (most notably the 1994 animated series) explain that the spider DNA in Peter's blood allowed him to have the knowledge to make a web formula. Seems to make sense to me.
They say: Anyone can wear a pair of mechanical web shooters and go swinging around the city. With organic web, Spidey is the only person who can do this.
I say: No. Anyone who's read the comics knows that this is not true. A person without spider powers who tried to use Peter's web shooters would break their arms from trying to swing around because they don't have the right agility. There's one storyline in the comics where Peter loses his powers, but still has to stop a crime, and tries to use his web shooters to swing around and nearly breaks his arms.
All in all, I think the mechanical web shooters are a lot better than the organic web. But I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this.

Well, they already have him with mechanical web-shooters, so I think Marvel's already made their choice. I'm also all for mechanical web-shooters, because they're what Spidey's always had.

Well, they already have him with mechanical web-shooters, so I think Marvel's already made their choice. I'm also all for mechanical web-shooters, because they're what Spidey's always had. I know they already decided to go with the mechanical shooters. But this thread isn't about what they DID do, it's about what they SHOULD do. |

I've never understood the arguments for mechanical shooters.
Organic shooters fit right in with the idea that the bite has changed him, just like his strength and jumping, and no I don't care in the slightest that the webs come out of his wrist instead of his butt. Making the shooters just something else he tacks on afterwards, is just weird if you ask me. It's like Peter was hoping the bite would have changed him more, so why not just have it change him more.
And it shows how smart he is? Please, there are 1000's of ways to show how smart he is. You don't need him to build mechanical web shooters to demonstrate that, so please remember the next time you make that argument, it is 100% irrelevant.
It was in the comics? I could pick out 100 things in the next hour that are in the comics that you would kill to not have show up in a film version. So let's not pretend that being in the comics is the only criteria.

THANK YOU. I tried unsuccessfully googling a bunch of stuff to find it, but there were interviews with Stan Lee circa 2002 in which he said he wished he had thought to make the webbing organic as well, that if he could go back and redo Spider-Man that's one of the few changes he would make. |

Like Peter Parker in the comic books, they should be mechanical. They were organic in The Amazing Spider-Man from 2004 to 2007 and for all of Ultimate Spider-Man, but your point is duly noted.  |

Constantly creating this fluid would make him tired and blackout. It's like bleeding to death as apposed to him just running out of the cartridges. |

Hulk to have been grey originally, like in the comics? Scarlett Witch to be wearing a big red tiara? Nick Fury to have nothing to do with founding the Avengers? Everybody to have secret identities?
Like in the comics.
Saying something was in the comics isn't the end of the argument for why something should be in the film.

You're the one trying to go all scientific with it, not me. I just said I prefer the idea that the shooters are linked to the spider bite, and not him just being smart.
Besides you don't have a big pouch for tears or saliva or sweat, and yet you can make those constantly. If you have a real objection, fine, but don't make stuff up and then complain about it.
