Based on what I've seen I prefer The Twilight Zone
I've seen the entire original series of The Twilight Zone, about half the 80s revival and none of the 00s revival Seen about 50 episodes of The X-Files

The X-Files seasons 1-5 are near masterpieces, capped by the film which while a step too accessible, did nicely tie up some loose ends for me.

Having seen both TV series more than once, I think THE TWILIGHT ZONE beats out THE X-FILES by a small margin.
Many more moments and episodes from THE TWIGHT ZONE have stayed with me over the years than anything I saw on THE X-FILES.
I also always look forward more to revisiting the earlier TV series than the later one.

X-Files. It's close if we're talking the half hour TZ eps but not so much factoring in the 1 hour eps.

Twilight Zone is a lot smarter and was a pioneer of the sci fi genre. Objectively, it deserves to win... BUT The X Files is in my top three all time tv shows, so... Personally, I prefer the Files. Anyone else?

I always felt more satisfied after I'd finished watching an episode than I ever did with THE X-FILES.

...to all on this thread:
A Twilight Zone episode entitled "Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge" actually won an Academy Award for best short subject. It is based on a short story by Ambrose Bierce and the story takes place during the US Civil War. Bierce was a US Civil War veteran.

It is based on a short story by Ambrose Bierce and the story takes place during the US Civil War. Bierce was a US Civil War veteran. Although AN OCCURRENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE eventually aired on THE TWILIGHT ZONE in 1964, it didn't start out life as an episode of that TV series. In fact, that wasn't even its original title.
LA RIVIÈRE DU HIBOU - THE OWL RIVER - a French film directed by Robert Enrico and produced by Marcel Ichac and Paul de Roubaix, was released in 1963. It won the award for best short subject at the 1962 Cannes film festival and won an Oscar at the 1963 Academy Awards for best live-action short.
Fortunately, it did eventually get released as part of the fifth and final season of THE TWILIGHT ZONE. It wasn't one of my personal favourites, but I still thought it was rather good and enjoyed it.

ant-mac, you are correct. My copy of Treasures of the Twilight Zone contains 3 episodes. The premiere episode, "Where is Everybody" aired on 10/2/59, "The Encounter" episode 151 aired on 10/1/64 and finally, "An Occurrence on Owl Creek Bridge" episode 142, aired on 2/28/64. IMHO, these 3 episodes are the most iconic of all Twilight Zone short subjects.

I bought the complete box set for THE TWILIGHT ZONE and have watched it through twice plus watched a few personal favourites more often.
I also have the box set for the 1980s version of the TV series, but I just can't seem to get into it for some reason.
It's just not the same...

reboots are like that. I'm a huge fan of the original Outer Limits and own the entire series on DVD. I also own the reboot, but it is just does not provide the same vibe as the original.
