To anybody who wants to see a Venom movie, just watch the fan-made "Truth in Journalism", sure the effects aren't exactly great but its a better done effort than the movie we have in theatres now.
Or, watch Upgrade instead - essentially the same premise of 'Venom' but with technology instead. It even has a Tom Hardy look-a-like.

Haven't seen it, I'll catch it when it comes on TV.
Avi Arad as producer has been a sign for me to stay away from this movie. The man is a proven hack and studio yes man.

Just watched it. Entertainingly decent movie. Theatre was full and crowd reactions implied they really seemed to enjoy it (probably more than me). Not sure why I keep hearing it's bad.

Just watched it. Entertainingly decent movie. Theatre was full and crowd reactions implied they really seemed to enjoy it (probably more than me). Not sure why I keep hearing it's bad.don't ask, it's obvious. But the audience score of RT at 89 % and the decent BO turnout (breaking Oct records despite the systematic anti-hype) speak a different language. This is a film that seemingly dares to be different, you either hate or love it depending on whether you buy into the performance. |

I meant that it dares to be different on a basic concept level, as it has an anti-hero as protagonist, and kind of is a weird alien bromance. But formally you are right of course, this is another generic (upper mid budget) action film focusing only on the protagonist(s), with too many rewrites, with weak villains and too much CGI in the third act, like all of them. Nobody will hail this as the new standard in action movies - if you hate it, don't ask your 10 Dollars back from me. |
