for those of you who track your calorie intake whats your daily average? and what do you use for counting it?
mine is 1500 and I use Cronometer, mostly for counting carbs, very happy with the app.

I'd lose weight if I didn't eat about 2500 calories a day.

Nope. Never have either. I don't have time for nonsense like that. Barely have time enough for anything else as is.
I listen to my body. When I'm full/satisfied, it will let me know, and I can stop eating. Simple as that. No need to overcomplicate it I think.

A working body should let you know whenever you are hungry, when you are full, when you need to go toilet etc

and is your body in the shape you want it to be? Nope, just the shape I expect. Mine's doing okay for my age. I have non-diabetic hypoglycemia, so I am more concerned about protein, matching up amino acids and blood-sugar level, and since I'm vegetarian... well, I have yet to see a vegetarian that is overweight. I am aware of needing to stay active and fit; living alone, I want to stay alone in my own home as long as I can. My mother is 95, in a care facility, essentially totally dependent on others and I can't think of a worse fate. When I can't take care of myself anymore, someone needs to take me out back and shoot me. Is there room in that big back yard of yours, still?

Having done work experience in an aged care facility - and seen my mother end up in one shortly before the end - I absolutely agree with you. I would wish to avoid that fate at all costs, particularly after living alone and being relatively independent for so long.
I also have some health issues - high blood pressure and diabetes - and while I take my medication regularly, I certainly don't do as much as I could in other areas to maintain my health. I simply hope that when the end comes, it's quick and reasonably painless.
And if you were ever to visit, I'd rather have a cuppa and a chat than bury you in the backyard.

You think these people stop when they are sated? They don't know what sated is. to me those people wouldnt qualify as having a healthy/working body (or mind) though so I take those out of the equation, to me if you allow yourself to be that unhealthy its a symptom of a larger problem possibly addiction. i wonder if there are people here that are relatively healthy/active (i know, whats relative is relative) and yet count calories/carbs/watch the intake, intentionally, with a certain limit they do not want to cross or not too often. i feel like i have to watch it because its so easy to mindlessly order/consume like thousand calories or something thats half of your daily intake, without even realizing it. like a milkshake or a meal that includes heavy sauces or fried food.

I don't exactly count my calorie intake (I would guess around 2,000 give or take) but I am sure I don't overeat given my height/weight (and age) which is 5'7" @ 140-145lbs and have been there for over a year now (maybe a couple of years or something like that). so I am smaller than most males for sure. but recently when I got out of bed and weighed myself on the scales I seem to be floating around 136-138lbs but I typically add a bit because I think our scales are a little low (I add roughly 5lbs to it since others scales I used seem to suggest in that neighborhood) but I have been using those same scales for years, so at least they are consistent. ill be 39 years old later this month. so whatever I am doing is working but I was floating around 150lbs, or a bit more, for many years (I don't think I cracked 160lbs before though). basically back when I had energy to burn I was 5'7" @ 125-130lbs which was like when I was 15-16 years old, which was my prime, and while I don't know exactly when my weight started to increase from around that figure, I would say I floated around that range probably into my early 20's or so and maybe late 20's or early 30's I was probably in that 150lbs ball park as for the last, maybe a year or two or so now, I am pretty steady around low 140's. but I suspect some of my weight loss (I probably dropped roughly 10-15lbs) is that I don't eat as much in general at meals etc. like for example in the past... when I went to Subway I used to eat a footlong sub all at once which is simply too many calories for a single meal (which is roughly in the ball park of 1000 calories with the drink). now what I do is order a footlong sub, ill eat half now and then save the other half for later, say 4-5hours or so later. basically I always heard it's best to eat smaller meals a bit more often than eating large meals less often as I think it has a effect on boosting your metabolism etc which helps regulate weight a bit. also, I don't eat too much side snack stuff in between meals either. also, I drink around 16-32oz of Coke or Mountain Dew a day which is a good amount of calories right there. so with all of that said... I don't really restrict what I eat as I pretty much eat what I like (I am not saying what I eat is "optimal" but it could easily be much worse as I tend not to like those more crap foods loaded up with grease etc like some people do. but I guess we all like what we all like, be it good or bad.), I just don't get too crazy with eating boatloads of food as some people wonder why they are well overweight/obese and then I see some of these people eat food and they eat WAYYYY to much for a single meal and they can't figure out why they are well overweight. lol ; like some people will eat in a single meal that can get AT LEAST two meals out of, possibly more. basically these people have a food eating problem but ill bet many of those types think what they eat is normal when it's not even close and well over what once actually needs to keep their strength up etc. I can see how one could push things a bit and eat a bit more than usual here and there but I would not make a habit of it. with all of that said... I realize that people vary (like some people are naturally heavier than others) as some people can eat a ton of food and still not gain weight (usually those teenager or thereabouts types who got energy to burn) while others don't even get too crazy with food and can still gain weight due to legitimate health issues like thyroid etc etc. but I think for the most part those really overweight people are simply eating way too much food and they buried themselves. also, to state the obvious... the more active someone is then they will naturally need more calories to maintain their weight etc. the other day we eat at Applebee's and I was surprised to see their basic cheeseburgers are around 1000 calories (give or take a bit) and that's not even counting the fries that come with it. that's really high as even Big Mac's at McDonalds, which are quite filling, are only 540calories (if I recall correctly) which is about half of the Applebee's burgers and much more reasonable for a single meal plus your drink etc. so what I did when I seen that was stretch things out and ate some of the burger and some of the fries and I got basically a solid 2 meals out of it and even saved a little of the burger for later for a light third meal which I am sure kept my overall calorie intake that particular day within reason. hell, after your used to eating less you tend to get fuller quicker and cannot eat as much to. like your stomach shrinks.
also, I try to drink at least 8-16oz of (purified)water each day to. so while I enjoy my Coke/Mtn Dew with each meal, I still get a reasonable level of water in my system to stay hydrated etc. drinking water is always a good thing for ones health.
also, while I used to have energy to burn (as I am sure I was above average in running speed/jumping abilities back in my late teens) I don't get much exercise anymore as I have not been all that active for probably around 15 years or so now. but considering I don't really exercise I can still run at a decent top speed as I estimate I am somewhere around 14-15mph nowadays (that's got to be close given a test I did a while ago) as in my prime, while I don't know for sure, I would guess 18-20mph or so but I don't think it's a stretch given what I can do now and I am noticeably slower than I used to be as some of it is I weigh more now (140-145lbs vs 125-130lbs) and I am older which is always going to have a negative effect. but when I did that 14-15mph estimate that was roughly a few years ago and while I am not getting any younger I am pretty sure I was closer to around 150lbs at that time. so all-in-all I would still expect my top running speed to be very close to 14-15mph right now as even the other day I ran on a treadmill and that does about 9-10mph topped out and while it was not easy I still had a fair amount left in the tank p.s. my mom basically has to watch her sugar/carb intake though, as while she's slender, she's got some issues that the sugar/carb intake need to be kept minimal as her diet I simply could not do as it's WAY too limiting for me. she indulges a little here and there though. funny thing is, my dad on the other hand is obese as he's about 1 inch taller than me but weighs around 260lbs (give or take 10lbs) for many years now. but he seems to fall into the category of those who eat a bit too much as when we went to Applebee's that day recently he ate his entire burger etc all at once. so between everything he had then, I am sure it was well over 1,000 calories. I am not saying he does that much on a day-to-day basis but you get the gist. but I don't expect ill get as big as him as even back when he was noticeably younger than myself he weighed around 170-180lbs from what my mom said and from what I recall I think his weight really started to shoot up in his early 50's or so. he's 67 now. but I would say, from what I know, he's been around his current weight for roughly 10-15 years. but since he chews tobacco for a high percentage of his life I wonder how much of a negative effect that had on his system. but I guess ill never know for sure.

mslo79 - you are right, I also feel like many meals generally served in the US (espeially in chain restaurants) are big enough to feed two/make teo meals. Certainly often calories wise. And then its fairly easy to start outting on weight even when u dont really feel like u overeat.
