I think in the 1956 movie "The Bad Seed", a creepy, though campy, thriller melodrama, there is a very sad scene near the end when the mother realizes her daughter is basically unredeemable evil and is heartbroken as she tries to come to terms with this horrifying reality. It's not a film that belongs in the category "tearjerker", but this scene really borders on epic tragedy, I think.
Some people have dissed Nancy Kelly's performance as overwrought, but I think she is excellent and very intense. I love the scene when she is beginning to unravel (as Rhoda has just claimed her third victim, the dim witted handyman, Leroy) and Rhoda is playing that inane little tune on the piano and Nancy just SLAMS her hand down on the piano. I think it is easy to tell when an actor is acting or when they are just really into that character and there is no acting, and in this scene I think Nancy Kelly was totally invested. That looked so painful! But what a great, emotionally riveting scene.

Always thought the scene in Godzilla (1998-yes really) where Zilla finds its newly hatched babies not just dead but burned to a crisp then Zilla trying revive one of them legitimately upsetting. I actually enjoyed this movie but this scene leads back to the film's biggest problem in that we the audience have no clue how to react to Godzilla whether as a villain or a hero.

I've always found the scene in The Nutty Professor (1996) where Sherman is humiliated in the nightclub by Dave Chapelle's character to be pretty sad.

The scene in Click where Adam Sandler's character goes back to watch himself treat his father like crap, which ended up being the final time he saw his father alive.

Its been around 12 years since I've seen it, so I don't really remember that much about it. Being a Sandler vehicle I thought I remembered it as a comedy. The only time I remember getting emotional was during the scene I mentioned.
