Being a resident of Seattle, I have double reason to dislike Amazon as their growth has basically ruined the city I grew up in. Yeah, I am seeing that happen where I live too... Brick N Mortar stores (And Shopping Malls) are going out of business everywhere... and then these buildings just sit there vacant.... For example: A Staples store in my neighborhood went out of business a few years ago, and it is still vacant... I am seeing more buildings sitting vacant, every week... It's really starting to make neighborhoods look like a poverty stricken community or even a war zone! I don't understand WHY online consumers want to make their neighborhoods look like this, especially when this also increases the crime rate as well, and also de-values residential property values. Exactly. And in addition to this, in Seattle, because of the growth there are tons of faceless ugly apartment buildings replacing every single corner of the old neighborhoods. And most of them just have empty storefronts on street level presumably because the rent is so high for potential restaurant/shop owners... As you said it really does look like a poverty stricken area, which is ironic considering it's caused by the success of local businesses.

Cool and I think I was born 2300 years too late! I should have seen the real old days. I feel like I belong there. Or may be I could have traveled with Marco Polo or with Hiuen Tsang or with Fa Hien. Life would have been so much more interesting. Heh. I would have loved to have travelled with any of them as well; my heart’s truly with old-fashioned virtues—chivalry, honor, and all that. I don’t know, it’s just an old soul thing, an out-of-my-time thing, and it’s nearly impossible to find a solution to it. So many people in my age-group just assume I’m weird and don’t like to have fun because I like old books and movies and all that. C’est la vie, but it’s difficult. Very difficult. Dear God, I don’t want to turn this into a pity-party for myself. I’ve just always been a bit out of place. I'm actually very similar to that. But I think I belong even further back than Aj_June suggested... I've often thought I'd be perfectly at home in the prehistoric days of small tribal city-states where everyone around you are people you've always known and finding your proper place in society is much much easier. Wow. This thread got really deep and philosophical really fast considering it began by talking about a smushed blu ray!

The only time I have shopped online is when I needed something that was not available in local markets. That was GMAT books from a certain prep company back in 2011.
If something is available within town then I go to the shop. Much like you I want to feel safe while buying my stuffs. You can't get touch or feel of online stuffs. I am of course just giving my own personal opinion and likes. There may be some who are comfortable with buying online.
I also never order food online. I instead give a call to the restaurant and talk to them directly than place order on their website. And I don't even ask them to deliver me food unless they are far away. I instead and go to the restaurant and collect the order.

I sure like you to delve on old times and how you feel you belong to past. Feel free to talk to me anytime you wish to talk about old values.

Where are your ordering from because that seems odd that the cases would be THAT damaged especially since you seem to suggest it happens often. but then again I don't order that type of stuff online as I imagine when it comes to bluray and the like, depending on price etc, you might be better off getting that locally. This one came from Amazon. And I almost never order from them anymore, but I wanted the old packaging and not the newer released packaging and they're the only ones that had it. Problem is they ship in those "box that isn't really a box" things where the cardboard just kind of folds in so they probably get smashed in transit. Damage wasn't catastrophic, but enough to cause huge creases on the spine and cover art.

I just thought it was funny how the topic evolved.

On a related note, a few years back one of my favorite Chinese restaurants was replaced by one of those Amazon Fresh places! I do miss their orange chicken...

I'm not, because I never have.
I don't trust the internet.
I prefer to do my shopping face-to-face, in a shop.
