Is it right or wrong?
Tribalism is why countries go to war.
Things like morality are seldom logical but emotional. It might make sense to try and find a cure for malaria but if someone loses a loved one to a rare disease, that's what they're going to advocate a cure for. Autism might seem like a disorder but if you have a child with autism, that's going to decide it.
If a country goes to war and is the aggressor, and you're a citizen of that country, you fight for your country.
If there's a social issue going on, you're supposed to go with your own. If there's something going on that's seen as sexist against women, any woman who isn't in favor of women is a traitor. A Jew is not on board with Israel is a wicked son. A Palestinian who is not for Palestine is also a traitor. But which is wrong or right?
You go with your blood. That's human nature. But it's not logical. But humanity is not logical. Humanity is emotional.
This is the issue I'm dealing with right now.

We are one species living on one planet. We need to deal with our childish differences and get on with working together for the common good. And while we're at it, we should also create cold fusion, square the circle and work pi out to its last decimal place.

I agree with everything you said, ant-mac, except I would rather circle the square.

I was simply implying that you're more likely to achieve the goal of squaring a circle than you are at bringing about global cooperation.
I was also making an oblique and passing reference to the film, MAGNUM FORCE, where Clint Eastwood says, "A man's got to know his limitations."

Oh, okay, "global cooperation" is not the first thing I would have guessed. I was thinking more like higher math. I liked "A Magnum Force". The second best in the series. Plus a young David Soul and Robert Urich! So sweet!

It's just a shame there were only 5 of them.
And in my opinion, quite a few very good actors appeared throughout.

Tribalism exists in the Left as much as it exists in cess pits like the Middle East and Africa. Tribalism is anything that unites groups of people. You will never get rid of it.

Unfortunately I think tribalism is biological and cannot be overcome.
Whether you lean fascist or communist, there's tribalism at the heart of it.
I don't know where this quote originates but:
“The universalist ideal rests on the belief that human beings are willing to share such a collective system with the rest of humanity. But evolutionary psychology suggests that humans have developed kin selection, those tribes with the strongest sense of in-group altruism being the most likely to survive.” “No universal altruism has evolved because a sense of universal altruism would have no evolutionary advantage.” “A world without borders or distinctions is impossible, because groups that practice unlimited altruism will be eliminated in favor of those that limit altruistic behavior to smaller groups, from whom they receive benefits.”

Its stupid. People too dumb to think for themselves glom onto a popular opinion. And treat it as gospel. They let others tell them what to think.

Its unfortunate that we all think tribally instead of individually. Since its such a powerful human instinct I don't know that we could overcome it. At least not within our lifetimes.
One form of tribalism I hope we get rid of is religion. I honestly believe that its done more to separate us than unite us, historically speaking.

I know leftist Jews who are against Israel and I know traditionalist women who are against feminism. In fact very many women are against feminism. Sometimes it's loyalty to one group over another. For example a Mormon woman will follow her church's traditional values and vehemently oppose feminism. I'm a pro-feminism woman, but I am also a Jew (cultural, not observing) who's completely opposed to what's going on in Israel today. In fact, I have my moments when I'm opposed to the whole notion of any nation being founded all or in part on theocratic ideals, and the nebulous notion that 'God' granted a particular group rights in perpetuity to a particular parcel of real estate. Fully in favor of the Jewish right to self-defense, but I'm far from sure if the current Israeli stance on Palestine can be covered under that rubric.

I wouldn't say right or wrong, it's just stupid and it creates a lot of problems.

Fully in favor of the Jewish right to self-defense, but I'm far from sure if the current Israeli stance on Palestine can be covered under that rubric. When I was politically involved in college, all the left wing student groups rallying against Israel were majority Jewish. I used to be very anti-Israel, 'drive into the sea' type anti-Israel. I've mellowed now and believe the generations of Jews born there obviously have a right to live there. But we need a multi-ethnic multi-religious state. Religious law can't be Israeli government policy. How do you feel about Muslims? I ask because many (most?) of them would love to toss you off a roof and laugh while you died simply because you're a male who loves cock. I know logic is close to non existent in white liberals but how do y'all work out insanely conflicting lifestyle like muslims that would love to viciously murder EVERY gay person while claiming to support both the bloodthirsty cultists and the gay folks? Since you admit you "were" a hate filled bigot yourself you're very familiar with leftist hypocrisy so perhaps you can explain the process you guys go thru.

Since you admit you "were" a hate filled bigot yourself you're very familiar with leftist hypocrisy so perhaps you can explain the process you guys go thru. I'm a right wing anarchist now. I abandoned leftism and Marxism when I graduated from university. But I don't see why supporting Palestine and a secular state in Israel makes me a bigot. Islam is rife with homosexuality. Bans on association between unmarried males and females makes homosexuality the natural outlet for young males. There is no "gay" in traditional Islamic countries, guys just make love to each other and don't call it "gay". But I think Islam is absurd like all theism. You are an anarchist? So you like murder, mayhem and chaos?

You are an anarchist? So you like murder, mayhem and chaos? Hell no. I'm an anarcho-syndicalist. I want a small weak central government and an economy run by worker's syndicates. There's nothing chaotic about that. I looked up the definition. Sounds like communism. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism

No. Communism is socialism run by a centralized bureaucracy. Anarcho-syndicalism replaces corporatism (which is not monopolistic, not free enterprise) with labor unions which run industry. There is a still a profit incentive for the worker's syndicates. And there is no centralized big government. And what incentive would anybody have to own a business or company and employ organized labor? If the the labor force had all the power?
