Pros - Russell Crowe in his Oscar winning performance. Richard Harris Joaquin Phoenix The Hans Zimmer score The opening scene in Germania "They say no." The scenes inside the Coliseum are when the film is really alive. Live action Oliver Reed When that guys who pees himself gets nailed in the face with the spiked mace. "The little bee had wounded him more deeply than anyone else could ever have done. And what do you think happened then, Lucius?"
Cons - The politics can get boring. CGI Oliver Reed.

Pretty much this. I'll also add that the CGI cityscape shots hadn't aged particularly well but that's a given I suppose. Oh I'll add that its plot borrows a little too liberally from The Fall of the Roman Empire. It's pretty much the same story in half the running time.

Cons
- Messy third act that was recut and rewritten (due to actor loss etc) - Preposterous historical inaccuracies and implausibilities to the point I wondered why they had to (mis)use historical figures - Battle scenes for some parts are too shakey, uninvolving and badly edited. - The pacing is uneven at times - Corny deus ex machina resolution - CGI did not age well - Zimmer Soundtrack steals too obviously from temp tracks used, like from R Wagner, G Holst etc.
Pros
Everything else

Pro - Nice epic scale without compromise for typical clichés.
Con - It's rather dry. I like some of its dryness because oddly fresh, yet overall it is a rather dry experience.

Pro's...
-It's the best movie of it's type unless you count Braveheart (1995) in the same genre as Gladiator (2000) ; NOTE: I pretty much consider Gladiator in the same genre as Braveheart because I lump it into that 'it takes place in the old days and people fight with swords etc'.
-The movie Russell Crowe will be remembered for.
etc
Con's...
-Not much to say given the above info.
p.s. but since I brought up Gladiator (8/10) vs Braveheart (10/10)... ill say that Gladiator has more visual flair where as Braveheart is carried by the passion of Mel Gibson basically.

A good film, but overrated.
