While watching The House That Dripped Blood (1971) I noticed that actor Jon Pertwee looked so much like Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred the butler on Gotham. Turns out, he's his father. I'm not British, so this may be common knowledge for those who are. Also, did you know Jon Pertwee was once Doctor Who from 1970 to 1974? Most likely you did, but I'm only now piecing this all together! Anyway, I'm making this thread to share any random funny recent discoveries you've learned of like mine.

More "Doctor Who" trivia. Jon Pertwee was the Third Doctor. He was exceeding popular during his tenure and remained a fan favorite. Harry Melling is most well known to moviegoers as Dudley Dursley from the Harry Potter films, but has a long resume of stage credits. Melling is the grandson of Patrick Troughton, the second actor to play The Doctor (from 1967 thru 1969) on “Doctor Who.” Melling has said that his ambition is to play The Doctor himself. The Fifth Doctor – Classic Era - was played by Peter Davison (from 1981-1984) who was coming off “All Creatures Great And Small.” His daughter, actress Georgia Moffett, is married to David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor (from 2005-2010) – New Series. Tennant and Moffett met when she did a guest bit on the show. Patrick Troughton and grandson Harry Melling Peter Davison as The Doctor David Tennant and Georgia Moffett on “Doctor Who”

Since my first reply didn’t quite fit your requirement that the trivia must be recently learned, here is a different offering that fits your criteria. Like Doctor Who, this is also for TV hero nerds:
In season four (of five) of The Lone Ranger (1949-1957), a new continuing character was added, The Ranger’s nephew, Dan Reid (played by Chuck Courtney). Dan was the son of the Ranger’s older brother who had died in the massacre that created The Lone Ranger. The writer and radio producer Fran Striker was the creator of The Lone Ranger. He was also the brains behind the radio serial The Green Hornet. In one Green Hornet episode, Striker hinted strongly that Britt Reid (the man under The Green Hornet mask) was the son of Dan Reid from The Lone Ranger program. Later, when ownership of the two programs went to separate hands, that idea was dropped, but for fans of masked heroes since then, The Lone Ranger has been thought of as great-uncle to The Green Hornet.

mikef6Thank you so much for that bounty of trivia, I really love stuff like this. Who knew Doctor Who was such a family affair?

After filming, Vincent Price took the "captain" Usher painting from HOUSE OF USHER while Roger Corman took the painting Roderick Usher had in his room. When I was reading about the Twilight Zone set accident, it mentioned Jennifer Jason Leigh was Vic Morrow's daughter. I had no idea.
Just yesterday I learned Olivia Hussey has a daughter who resembles her.

Angela Lansbury She was contracted by MGM while still a teenager and nominated for an Academy Award for her first film, Gaslight (1944). Two pictures later, she was again nominated for Best Supporting Actress, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945). Began playing mother roles, often to players of her own age, while yet in her thirties. "Wearing just conventional makeup (i.e., not studio made-up to look "old"), she was most chilling and unforgettable (and convincing!) as the manipulating mother of Laurence Harvey in The Manchurian Candidate (1962), while in real life being scarcely three years Harvey's senior." 18 Emmy nominations without a single win

Bela outacted Karloff by far in Son of Frankenstein, not that Karloff had nuch acting to do.
Supposedly, Bela never knew about it, but Karloff made a point to the studios that he never wanted Bela to have to big a part in any film Karloff was in from that point on.
It's in IMDb's trivia on Son of Frankenstein.

Old character actor Jay C. Flippen, was once a vaudeville performer and recording artist in the 1920s. He also had his own band "Jay C. Flippen and his Gang". I had heard him on some various artists old vinyl LP's, but I didn't make the connection until today when I read on old Variety review about The Wild One 1953 where it was mentioned.

Silent film star Clara Bow did nude photo poses in the 1920s, as did Louise Brooks.
Doing image searches: that did not seem uncommon for actresses at the time.

All this past summer I have been feasting on mostly unknown film noir and really enjoying them, esp. when I can catch a bunch of great character actors and some actors still on their way up. I was surprised to find Lansbury as the femme fatale in two I have seen. A Life At Stake / Paul Guilfoyle (1955). Angela and her elderly husband work a con on naïve good guy, Keith Andes. Lansbury could still sport a stylish bathing suit. Please Murder Me! / Peter Godfrey (1956). Lansbury plays manipulative femme to Raymond Burr’s rare (before Perry Mason) role as the spiritually tortured noir hero. Pardon me for reusing some material previously used recently on the weekly thread.

LORNE GREENE
His rich, deep, authoritarian voice quickly propelled him to prominence as Canada's top newscaster.
When he was an announcer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in the early years of World War II, he was nicknamed "The Voice of Doom" for the combination of his deep voice and the usually gloomy news reports about the war he had to read.
Served, along with Betty White, as co-host of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC-TV for almost a decade, 1963-1972.
He was the original inventor of the count-down clock that allowed a show, in filming, to know how much time was remaining in each segment of filming and in the total length of the show. This allowed the directors and actors to know how much time they had in which to complete a program or segment. His patent was the source of some wealth in the pre-computer era of filming.
He was born in 1915 and his TV "Sons" Pernell Roberts and Dan Blocker were both born in 1928.
AND FINALLY..
A personal quote: [on-air mistake during his radio days newscasts]: Western farmers are expecting their biggest crap in years.
