I know there is a Music Board, but not many people post there, at least not a lot of posters from here. Music is a pretty big passion of mine and seeing as there's a few music threads on the board now I thought I'd ask. Try to limit it to about 10 or 20.
These aren't my absolute favorites, but some that best represent my overall taste, roughly chronologically:
Erik Satie The Ronettes Francoise Hardy The 13th Floor Elevators Neil Young T. Rex NEU! Orange Juice Beat Happening Shonen Knife Black Tambourine Saint Etienne low Spiritualized Stereolab William Basinski Perfume

FridayOnElmStreetNot a lot of common ground, I do like Elvis and early Duran Duran though. "Planet Earth" was new-wave pop perfection

theauxphouI've only heard of a few of those (Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Susumu Yokota, Autechre), but I like them. Assuming they're predominately electronic artists.

At last--someone has posted a list of people that I've actually heard of...all twenty of them! Many thanks, Sulla! Limiting my list to artists/bands starting with the 1950's (thus eliminating the Gershwins, Benny Goodman, et al.), here are a few--alphabetized 'cause I've been working in a library for the last twenty years: Adele Alan Parsons Project, The Allman Brothers, The Altan Animals, The Association, The Bare Naked Ladies Battlefield Band, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Benatar, Pat Byrds, The Capercaillie Coasters, The Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young Duran Duran Electric Light Orchestra Elfman, Danny Okay, since this list is getting a tad unwieldy, I'll post some more further on in the alphabet, later on (yes, I know you'll all be simply panting with impatience 'til then )...

ellynmacgYou're welcome to post more. I know it's hard to stop once you start listing favorites. The Beach Boys and The Byrds could have easily made my list.

Ill list only the bands/musicians whos discography I know A-Z and like all of it.
Nirvana The Beatles The Rolling Stones Simon & Garfunkel (only together) The Doors Eddie Vedder (not Pearl Jam) Jamiroquai David Bowie Cat Stevens (prior name change to Yusuf) The Beach Boys Lenny Krawitz Michael Jackson Fat Boy Slim Queen
and last but not least, my boy and true poet and genius: Eminem
I am noticing there are no women on the list... but no matter how much I try I cant come up with one whos all songs I would like... weird. Maybe I am forgetting someone.

I know this is way more than you asked for, but it's hard to give an idea of my tastes without listing more than 20 artists. As it is I left a ton of stuff out. I probably overlooked a couple who'd be towards the top of my list, but this kind of gives an idea of the scope of stuff I like the most.
(hed) pe 2 Unlimited A Camp Aaron Copland Adrian Belew Aerosmith Airto Moreira Allman Brothers Animal Collective Anita Baker Aretha Franklin Beastie Boys The Beatles (and all solo stuff) Bee Gees Benny Goodman Black Sabbath Bob Dylan Brand X Brian Eno Bukka White Charles Mingus Chicago Chick Corea Chuck Mangione Count Basie David Bowie David Murray Dead Kennedys Donna Summer The Doors Earth, Wind & Fire Elvis Presley Emerson, Lake & Palmer Frank Sinatra Frank Zappa Genesis Glen Campbell Grateful Dead Howlin Wolf Igor Stravinsky Israel & New Breed Jacksons (all permutations including solo) Jaco Pastorius James Brown Jimi Hendrix Joan Armatrading Joe Cocker Johnny Cash Joni Mitchell Judas Priest kd lang Ken Nordine King Crimson King's X KISS Laurie Anderson Led Zeppelin Leon Russell Lou Reed Madonna Magma Michael Brecker Miles Davis Mississippi Mass Choir Muddy Waters Neil Diamond Neil Young Ohio Players The Orb Ozzy Osbourne Paquito D'Rivera Parliament/Funkadelic Pat Metheny Pink Floyd The Police Poncho Sanchez Prince Queen Ramones REM Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band The Rolling Stones Rush Smiths/Morrissey Soundgarden Steely Dan Todd Rundgren Tom Waits Willie Nelson Yes Zs ZZ Top
