I just re-watched 1992 for the first time since 2011.
I certainly hope this adaptation won't be faithful "to a tee" because the original is A; very silly/cartoonish (it's a kids' animated film after all) and B; it has a few dumb plot holes/contrivances that I hope they work around in this new adaptation (such as: Jasmine/Jafar not recognising Aladdin because he's wearing different clothes, and the palace guards not recognising Jasmine because she's wearing different clothes).
Things I noticed in the trailer, presuming what we see is what we get in the film:
- when entering the cave in '92, Jafar is in the guise of the old prisoner, in 2019 Jafar is wearing his regular garb and is accompanied by 2 other men. - Abu and Carpet aren't visible anywhere in the trailer. If Carpet and Abu aren't in this adaptation, the story will play out quite differently as they provide a lot of deus ex machina escapes for Aladdin. - The Cave of Wonders appears on the side of a rock in a rocky area, in '92 it's in the middle of the desert floor with no rocks/crags in sight - Aladdin's outfit is quite different
also, there is no voice for Iago or Abu listed in IMDB, so for now I don't think they will have a voice (and again, not sure at all if Abu will appear)
The cartoonishness is almost entirely stemming from the Looney Tunes-esque visuals provided by Genie, so with that said this adaptation's Genie will likely present quite differently.
also, this adaptation features a new character known as Prince Anders, so I assume there will be a larger sub-plot where suitors compete for Jasmine.
I think almost everyone agrees that Guy Richie is the wildcard here, heh.

Yeah King Arthur showed the world how nutz he goes with a big budget. Not sure what to expect with this. Given the presence of a genie in the story, that does give him full rein same as the animated movie to go as crazy as he wants.

To his advantage, Aladdin 92 already has a "modern style" in Genie's countless pop culture references, so that anachronistic aspect won't be too jarring. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Seems to have pissed one of the original film's writers the hell off. It's regarding his lack of compensation and/or recognition.

This makes me optimistic! Let's hope Will Smith pulls Genie off. I still think they should have cast Billy Crystal.

Prince Anders is not whitewashing - that character is clearly supposed to be scandinavian because his name is ANDERS
I remember the brownface thing.... and it's very strange.... idk why were aren't talking about that anymore
