I wasn't aware his life energy was drained. Well, why did Luke die then?

I would say it was always there. Using the Force can exhaust someone because of the heavy concentration that it requires, but you don't drain energy from the Force. It requires your life force to work.
While I never read the book, I did read someone's comment that Luke felt exhausted after using the Force to seize a black hole and have it close in on itself in The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide I: Onslaught.

I wasn't aware his life energy was drained. Well, why did Luke die then? It wasn;t because of Force drain. He needs the Force to disappear since it's not automatic. He was old so it could be as simple as physical exertion did him in.
