"First Man" Is A Complete Bore

You're one of the ones whining about the movie not being about the flag being planted right?

Why do you liberals take pride in the fact that people are bothered by this historical omission? You always bitch and complain about having your patriotism questioned, but you people are always proud someone gives the middle finger to our country.

Oh, it is? Weird that people would make up a lie and say that it isn't.

Haven't seen it, but watching the previews, I wasn't induced to watch it, because like you said, it looked like it would be dull.


It would take some hard work for a writer and director to make this even half way interesting. THE RIGHT STUFF was hard work, and mechanically induced writing on every scene to make it work, and it wasn't exactly "exciting", just watchable.


Some stories are going to be dull. Reality of outer space is dull. Submarines are dull. City streets are dull. It takes lots of mechanics to make them work on film.

It was certainly not what I was expecting. Extremely low-key and understated. Felt a little bit like an indy movie with some big budget side takes. On one hand I appreciate that they tried to give it a more distinctive style in a sea of space movies, but a lot of it didn't work for me. The family stuff, there was some depth to that, but too much of it just came out bland and ineffective. There was definitely a great amount of research and effort put into the NASA parts of the movie, but too much of it was procedural, without any real tension. Now, the actual moon landing scenes were indeed quite beautiful, and as can be expected elevated the movie, but still it's hard to give it more than a 5, 5.5/10 at most.
