What do you think of the following ideas for our league come January:
1. Continue the standings from the regular season. Pick the winners of the games each round.
2. Start afresh with a blank slate. Pick the winners of the games each round. Bonus points for predicting the correct Super Bowl winner from the start of the playoffs.
3. Only the top 12 players in the standings (homeboy not included) advance to the playoffs. #1 seeded player chooses a team from the playoffs to win the Super Bowl. #2 seeded player then has their chance to choose a team from those remaining. And so on until everyone has chosen a different team to win the Super Bowl. Posters will be eliminated or survive each week as corresponding to their chosen team's elimination or survival. This method rewards posters for strong performances in the regular season and adds a different element of play.
4. Another method; suggestions welcome.

I can't decide between option 2 and 3. I would normally go for option 2 but the pick em division is pretty big and having option 3 would be interesting. If I had my druthers I would like to see two separate threads for option 2 and 3. Somebody is going to win the regular season pick em, then option 2 let's everybody start fresh and try and pick the closest to a perfect bracket. Option 3 would be like a bonus pick em for the top 12 pickers of the season. Having just option 3 leaves a bunch of people out in the cold...probably including me

Only the best make it in, the rest can lick their wounds and hope to pick better next year! Option 2 would certainly be done anyway, but not necessarily related to our league. Just a "post your playoff brackets" will probably be done by 3 or 4 different people.

I like two, but also bonus points for predicting the score of each game. 3 sounds cool, but the #1 seed has a HUGE advantage. Only the top 2 or 3 seeds would even have a chance to win.
How about this, there is a playoffs with only the top 12 seeds getting in. The slate gets wiped clean and it is a straight pick 'em, with bonuses for the correct score. Added bonus for whomever can get the super bowl score.

Shouldn't the #1 seed have an advantage though? It's their reward for being the best picker in the regular season. Plus, look at last year. The #1 seed maybe chooses the Patriots. It depends on who's picking but I don't know if that many people would've chosen the Eagles. Upsets do happen. Of course, it's more likely that the top seeds will win but the choice of the best teams is their reward for being among the top seeds. However, I also like your idea.

I tentatively decided to go with option 3, just FYI, unless there’s mass demand for something else. I’ll also certainly post some kind of “post your playoff bracket” thing welcome to all. I just think 3 is the most distinct and it rewards posters for strong regular season performance.

I prefer options 1 or 2, everyone should be allowed to pick IMO.

How about this: we do option 3 just for the top 12 players of the pick 'em. That's considered the official playoffs.
I'll also do option 2, open to all, returning and new posters. Posters are awarded points for correct winners, with more points as the rounds advance. Bonus points for getting the EXACT score right. Bonus points for calling the correct Super Bowl winner from the start of the playoffs.

I hate that idea. Some people are busy and can't check when you post the week 17 thread. Not fair at all.

If you seed the playoffs by giving the first pick to #1 it gives him a HUGE advantage over the rest, especially 10, 11, and 12. Way more than a home field advantage. Why not let the top 12 pick who they want with a score prediction as the tie-breaker?

And let me clarify this, will we pick our whole bracket at the start of the playoffs or will we pick each week’s games like we do now?

Option 2 seems like the best go IMO. I don't like the idea of people 1 through 12 getting to snake draft teams to win the super bowl and that being it. If you were to do something that way let all 12 people pick whatever team they want and predict how many points they score total in the playoffs to create tie breakers. If you want to give the higher seeds an advantage gift them like a 20 point breaker for the top 2 seeds and a 10 point breaker for seeds 3 and 4. The rest get no such breaker.
For example. Person A (#1 Seed) Picks the Chiefs to win the SB and they predict a total playoff score of 150 points for the Chiefs. Say they score 170 points instead of 150. Well with the gifted 20 point advantage they would have a perfect prediction. Also make it that people aren't allowed to pick the same total score.
That to me seems more fun.

What about a March madness style playoff pickem. Where you pick all the games before the first one is played?

I’m going to have to veto that idea, but by all means keep them coming.
