One of the more pathetic years from the most pathetic decade.
Only one stick out film:
OKLAHOMA CRUDE is the only major film that was risk taking and original. All the rest were formula. 9/10
Second pick is LIVE AND LET DIE 8/10, which got better with age. At the time, the red neck sheriff was way too trite, but today he's actually funny. At the time, you couldn't watch anything live or on stage without seeing the red neck sheriff.
Third pick is AMERICAN GRAFFITI pretty good at 7/10

"Turkish Delight" and "Ali: Fear Eats the Soul" and "Mean Streets" would be my favorite films from that year.
But 1973 was a fantastic year for movies.

I agree with these two films and own both on DVD. I also own Live and Let Die as part of the James Bond Ultimate DVD collection, but I consider that a lesser entry in the 007 series.

My second favorite decade for movies is the 1940s, followed by the 1980s. I loved the second half of the 60s, thought the 50s were a little bland, with some definite exceptions (notwithstanding French New Wave) and I need to see more of the 1930s. Shame on me. It all went downhill after about 1986.

I will throw a sleeper out there: GOOD MOVIE! But in a year with a lot of depth, it comes in about number 20 for me.
