Being introduced to my sister when she was born right before I was 2. But I wonder if it's really remembering it on my own or just because my mother spoke about it, wrote about it in my sister's baby book.

I have found that I dont need the aid of others to remind me of early memories. They just reappear sometimes.

Being in the hospital (as a visitor) when my mum's cousin (whom she was close to at the time; they've since drifted apart (which is another story)) was giving birth to her first children -- premature twins (one was stillborn, the other has severe cerebral palsy). I would've been three.

I was 3 or 4. I was having a fit at the next door neighbor's party because she wanted everyone to watch Crocodile Dundie on VHS And I wanted to watch a home recording of Jim Henson's Muppet Babies

I remember laying on the couch and grinding my crotch into the cushion to 'orgasm'. Then I peed my pants. I was about three.

Faint recollection of an earthquake in 1989 and how everyone in the house was panicked even though it was not a major erthquake
Gulf war was frequently in the news when I very a kid. The split of Soviet Union.
The cricket world cup that happened in Australia in 1992. Still remember the buzz surrounding it. I even saw some matches and could remember a few incidences even if I was 6.

My earliest childhood memory would have been in kindergarten. Class was all sitting in a circle on the floor, and one of my classmates held up a flash card. We were being taught to read our own names.
A couple of ones I would have LOVED to remember:
Back when Monty Python's Flying Circus was on network TV, I used to absolutely HATE at the end of the song when the foot stomped from the top. My parents had an album of Monty Python, and the back of it was a foot coming thru a TV. It was likely because on our real TV, I thought the TV was going to get stomped. My mother said they had to change the channel to avoid that scene. And, this was when one had to actually go up to the TV, and change the channel.
Not all are bad memories, though.
Back when Taxi first aired, I was about 3 or 4 at the time. I think Marilu Henner was my first celebrity crush. My mother used to tell me that even if Marilu's name was mentioned, my eyes would light up like a Christmas tree!
Now CHCH-TV in Hamilton, ON, Canada is airing Taxi. Rewatching the series....I was on to something.

I don't have any memory from before I was about six years old. I know we lived in two different places before we settled in the house that I first remember and I know where I went to kindergarten but I have no recollection of any of it.
My earliest memory is probably of my mother coming back home from the hospital after a brain aneurysm that she was very lucky to survive. I remember her sitting in bed with her head partially shaved and my father bringing us kids (three at the time) to see her. I don't think I was aware that she had come very close to death but I remember being scared.

Taking my first walk. I remember falling down after taking my first couple of steps and my dad refusing to help so I could stand back up again.

I have a bunch from when I was 2 and 3. Definitely no older because we moved to a different house when I was late 3. This was in a lower middle class suburb bordering on Detroit in the mid-70's.
- Laying on my mom's bed and her telling me that she hates my dad but doesn't hate me.
- My dad showing me his roach-clip he got in Vietnam, and explaining what it was for. "Look at this little grenade", "What's that?" "That's not important, look what happens when you pull the pin? It's a little clip" "What's it for?" "A joint" "What's a joint?" "It's like a funny cigarette that you smoke..."
- My dad taking me with him to someone's house around the block one night when my mom was out, and most like likely he bought and smoked weed from this guy.
- Sitting in the front seat of the car one night when my dad was driving us back (from presumably getting high and buying weed). We had a detached garage and the headlights lit up the inside of the garage, and to our surprise my mom was in there with her parents who must have popped in. My dad was pissed off about them being there, and I was excited to see them, and that made him more pissed off. Something like "Oh shit!" "Yay! Look, grandma and grandpa!" "God damn it!!!!"
- Skinning my knee on the sidewalk on the way to the neighborhood fair and my babysitter having to take me back home.
- Going over to some kid's house down the street and watching Sesame Street on a color TV. We only had black & white so it was amazing to me, like taking acid for the first time.
- My next door neighbor who was a cop, his wife was one of my babysitters. She told me about how her husband was trying to catch some guys in the neighborhood who were a small group of dudes who were on 10-speeds and surrounding a car, getting them to stop, and taking out the passenger and beating them up and stealing their car.

the teachers in the kindergarden lining all of us kids in the classroom while the teacher looked in our pants to see who has pooped in them. i remember being super nervous about it event thougy it was not me who didnt make it to the toilet.
yes this is my oldest memory. a pretty f*cking traumatizing one. looking back only now I am realizing the teacher should have been probably fired for this.

Short of something dramatic I am surprised people would claim to remember much when they are like 2-3-4-5 years old or so, especially much under the 5-ish age range as I think that's really pushing it already. but who knows, maybe it's me as it seems my sister tends to remember more from her childhood (say the single digit ages) than I do in general from what I have noticed (we are less than 2 years apart in age. I am 39 and she's 37 right now). I honestly don't recall THE earliest memory I had as I just mostly remember little odds and ends here and there. but come to think of it I can remember standing up in my dads truck a bit back in the day in the seat while going down the road (this would probably have been roughly mid-1980's). so I had to be pretty small but it's hard to say how old I was at that time but I would imagine probably no older than 5-ish? just given the distance from the seat to the roof of the truck is not much so that sort of limits how old one can be to stand fully or thereabouts.
Yeah, they say peoples memory can be odd like that. like what one thinks happened might not be entirely accurate etc especially when that much time has passed.
