I saw it around the time it came out, and wasn't very impressed (and I was a BIG Kasdan fan). It just came off as a bit too pretentious for me, and it had a pretty superficial take on race relations while thinking it was something deep and profound.

I remember liking it a lot at the time. I watched it again probably five years ago or so and still found it touching and enjoyable.

Boring and pretentious. It also rips off elements of Boyz in the Hood.

Danny Glover and Alfre Woodard were very good but I didn't care for it overall, particularly the baby subplot and the eye-roller of an ending.

Best part was seeing Jeremy Sisto as a kid

I liked it a lot. Need to watch it again. Fan of just about everyone in it, especially Kevin Kline and Steve Martin and Danny Glover and .… ! I tend to like ensemble movies with multiple intermeshing stories like this one .

I remember thinking it was really weird. Just something about it, that I can't put my finger on exactly.
Uh, just weird ok.

It's among my favorite movies. Having been to the Grand Canyon four times, I have to say Danny Glover's character is right. It puts things into perspective. I love how after Steve Martin gets mugged and shot he resolves to make better, meaningful films instead of gratuitously violent ones. Then after he gets out of the hospital when asked about his resolution he says "oh, fuck that!" And referring to Tim Burton's character... "Why he's the next Martin Scorseez!"

Horribly heavy-handed and trying too hard.

Also, hate Steve Martin in serious roles. Especially as the total creeper in Shopgirl.

Pretty sure I've seen it, probably not long after it was originally released, but barely remember it. Can't see myself revisiting it.

I seem to remember that after it came out and bombed, Kasdan blamed the public, or as he referred to them, the "civilians" who just didn't get the concept of it, implying that those in the film industry were part of some elite special force of artists.

It was OK, but nothing I would actively seek out to rewatch.

I remember thinking it was really weird. Just something about it, that I can't put my finger on exactly. Uh, just weird ok. Yeah, that's how I feel about it to. It was just so random and there was nothing in it to get me grounded or into it. Like they are just standing around then things start shaking and they go, "Earthquake!" OK now let's throw in a mugging of Steve Martin. Then an abandoned baby. The husband has an affair. Now let's all go to the Grand Canyon! Are we watching a soap opera or a movie?
