I bring this film up because I was reading an article Wednesday about the worst movies per year since 1950. This film took the spot for 1974. Really? You got Sam Peckinpah, Warren Oates in a frankly bizarre but damn entertaining film replete with that pure 1970s cinema pitch-black tone.

No way this is the worst film of '74. In fact it's probably one of the best. I don't know where they dig up these supposed film critics.

I can agree that it's not an easy movie to watch. The only movie Peckinpah had the final saying on? Most other movies producers re-edited.
I can't say I liked it, but still there was a kind of fascination seeing it, and Warren Oates is damned great in his role.

I wouldn't say it's a great film by any means, but certainly not the worst of 1974. All in all, it's fairly good. A bizarre, unique, and one-of-a-kind movie.

I like it.
John Henderson directed 'Bring Me The Head Of Mavis Davis' (1997), one of several screen entertainments inspired by the film's memorable title.

Watched it again recently. Still doesn't do much for me. For every critic that disses it, there's a critic that loves it...one of those movies. 6/10

2/10 but there's something perverse about it which makes it hypnotically watchable
