I'm not a big fan of Lewis either, but he doesn't do his wacky comedy in this one. I like him better in this serious role. I find Lewis even more cringe-worthy in his "serious" roles and off-screen being "himself". He totally lost me when he absolutely refused requests from patients and families to stop using the term "Jerry's Kids" in "HIS" telethons. As an adult, I realized that many of his "wacky characters" walked and talked much like the "kids" he was soliciting money for. Bottom line. Could not stand the man and avoid his films like the plague !

Yes. The Stephan Chow movie is amazing.
The DeNiro one is not.

I try not to let their personal lives influence my opinion, but I know it's difficult.

Thought it was quite good, with Lewis' dramatic turn a bit of a revelation--though as far as acting is concerned, it might not have been much of a stretch for him: according to many in Hollywood, he was doing little more in this than playing himself.

Very good movie, and eerily predictive of today's culture.

Someone on the old board worked on Lewis's short-lived talk show and said Lewis was very boorish on set and barely had to act for his role in The King of Comedy. If you watch De Niro/Pupkin's comedy routine, his mannerisms might remind you of a present-day politician.
