Damnit, I forgot 1950s, low-budget science fiction AND 1970s exploitation cinema, both completely worthy categories

Hollywood’s Golden Age. They had something for everyone.

Haven’t seen many films from the other eras, so I’ll go with early 80s slasher picks.

That's as poor a list as one can come up. You at least acknowledge leaving out the grand sci-fi era of the fifties, but to leave out the greatest Western era ever of the fifties boggles the mind. It's impossible to do, especially when you include the poorest genre of Westerns (to most people outside of the geek club of IMDB and the pathetic professional movie critics). Only the "haters" like spaghetti crap Westerns, by definition.
Of those you list, I was tempted to go to Japanese horror, if you mean the Godzilla style films that showed such great camaraderie among people, and civil behavior. The 40s 50s film noire had moments with DOA, Double Indemnity, The Hitch Hiker, and a few others, but overall, the golden era topped the list for me, what with Union Pacific, Wizard of Oz, Freaks, to name a few.

Well, at least I know how you really feel! LOL The reason I left out 1950s Westerns is one very reason. "Shame", "The Searchers", "Ride the High Country" (I can't even think of any more out of this group. Would "The Quiet Man" qualify?) Since none of those movies holds any interest for me in the teensiest, tiniest bit, I forgot that "category" of movies. Like the other polls I have created around the "favorites", I have only included in my lists, titles or actors whom I personally get some enjoyment from. From 1930s Golden Age to Spaghetti Westerns, there are numerous titles out of every single bunch that I love and enjoy. And that was why I was sorry to have neglected putting in 1950s Science Fiction and 70s exploitation (Jack Hill, anybody?) because I really like these two "genres'. But I do not like "regular" Westerns at all, zero interest, and they just never showed up on my radar. Sorry if this offends you. This was to be a very random and fan-based poll.

The New Hollywood era (or as you put it, the American Renaissance). Runner-ups are the Golden Age and film noir.

Tough to pick one, I went with French New Wave. Film Noir and Japanese Horror would come close. I'd probably pick the Japanese Golden Age if that was an option.
