Nope, it's an insult to the entire slasher genre.

It was ok. Craven did a film right before it (New Nightmare) that had a similar meta horror concept but much better.

I gave it a 10, so yeah, I'd say so.

I watched it again on TV Friday night with a friend, and we had our own MST3K going on ribbing it throughout, but it’s fine. I appreciate that it’s a mystery, with some attempt at cluing put in, and not just a cut-the-teenagers-to-ribbons slasher. It is really pretty stupid, certainly not as clever as it thinks it is, but I don’t hate it.
I think the second one is better, though.

In a way, SCREAM was the HALLOWEEN 2018 of its day. It was made by one of the smaller companies (Dimension Films/Blumhouse). Like Halloween 2018, it had some older production supervision (Wes Craven/John Carpenter). It also was claiming to be edgy or innovative.
They both have Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Myers too.
And they both have much larger theater reach than the slasher films of Yore(hunter from the future).
I think it mostly works as a comedy with some suspense moments. More imaginative an idea by far than Halloween 2018. I still think Harvey wanted to keep dad in the hall closet tied up so he wouldnt see what he was up to with Sydney after the killers were out of the picture.

I never got the appeal. I mean it was good enough for a horror I guess, but I was told it was a clever sort of parody of the slasher genre and yet never found it very funny or particularly clever or original and actually found the slapstick parts where the killer falls over things intermixed with the horror kind of jarring.

I am generally not that big on horror movies but I mildly like that series. in fact, I viewed Scream 1-4 between Aug 14th-16th 2018.
I have not seen Scream (1996) since probably the late 1990's (maybe early 2000's) prior to that recent viewing. I think my viewing of Scream 2 was pretty much my first proper viewing of it as I might have seen bits and pieces of it many years ago but I pretty much consider that my first viewing of the 2nd movie. the 3rd and 4th movies were my first viewing.
