All the President's Men. One of the best films of all time. The acting in this film is just incredible. You really feel like you are there with Woodward and Bernstein as they uncover the truth. Redford especially was just majorly dialed in. When he is on the phone with Paul Herrera (who doesn't speak English) and Woodward asks his co-workers nearby "Hey, do any of you guys speak English, uh, do any of you guys speak Spanish?" you can just feel the frustration. I'm not sure if that line was scripted or if was an accident that was kept in the film, but it just seems real. The fact that the Washington Post office was duplicated to such extreme detail (even copies of 1972 phone books on the desks and shelves) is amazing.
The Parallax View is also well done, but Warren Beatty just isn't Redford. He does an admirable job and it's probably the most intense paranoia wise although All the President's Men captures this as well especially after Deep Throat tells Woodward that their lives may be in danger.
Klute is probably my least favorite, but I haven't seen it in so long I don't think I can really comment on the reasons why. I'd probably have to give it another shot.

All the President's Men and Sophie's Choice are my two favorite movies of his. See these 2 first above all others.
Other decent ones are Klute, The Parallax View, and Presumed Innocent. Consenting Adults is a flawed movie, but it's not as terrible as its IMDB rating would indicate.

all the president's men - 8 the parallax view - 7 klute- 7
The parallax view captures an unsettling sense of conspiracy which hangs over the picture as a sinister unknown; the definitive 1970s political thriller.
comes a horseman - 4 starting over - 6 sophie's choice - 6 dream lover - 3
I remember sophie's choice was a surprise choice that ended up on the AFI 100 - which could be pushing it. All the president's men probably deserved it's top spot though.
presumed innocent - 7 consenting adults - 2 the pelican brief - 5 the devil's own - 3
In the 1990s presumed innocent was a slick return to form, after which he closed out with some dodgy Hollywood thrillers.
wanted - orphans

All the President's Men

Klute
6
The Parallax View Presumed Innocent

Sophie's Choice ** Streep's performance is excellent, if a little emotionally distant, but I think this film is quite poorly directed, with a notably terrible Kevin Kline performance to boot. I probably need to give it another chance given its reputation.

The Pelican Brief
