like when Melissa McCarthy gets to showcase her dramatic or lets say not as overly comedic abilities. Like here, in this new dramedy based on a surprisingly real story about a writer Lee Israel, who has taken to forgery in her later years. Lee is a cynical and somewhat bitter and unpleasant curmudgeon, so for those of you who feel that you are a bit like that yourself, you might just LOVE this movie. Can you Ever forgive me is pretty entertaining, with some great acting from its main protagonists (Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant) and I am very glad to see Melissa's husband Ben Falcone in a good role for him too! Good job from the young/fresh director Marielle Heller too. I would highly recommend this movie for any fan of McCarthy, and maybe even for those who are not her fans but would benefit from seeing why exactly she is so famous. Because she is an extremely good actress. I suggest you do not google the real life of the writer beforehand so you dont spoil the movie for yourself. From my research they did stick to it fairly well. This is also a good movie for writers or people who struggle with writers block or creativity dry spell. Not to lead you to forgery but to have you feel like you are not alone in this. Another one for 8/10. Yeah I know. But last week simply brought some really interesting indie movies.
